Overview

At first breathtaking sight, Marcus Fitzalan is willing to wager his membership in the Society of Scoundrels that the Lady Jade Smithfield is proud to be a scandal.

Jade Smithfield's grandmother unwittingly sold a land option to the railroad before she died. Nevertheless, to keep the family secret and to save the downtrodden women in her care, Jade is determined to stop the South Downs Railroad from laying track on her property.

To save his disabled brother's railroad, and the families who will lose their living without it, Marcus Fitzalan applies for the job as Jade's man of affairs to conceal his investigation into the railroad accidents halting construction.

While Jade wreaks havoc on the railroad, and leads Marcus a merry chase, her new man of affairs teaches her a lesson contrary to everything she has learned since birth: Not all men are created equal-some of them are good.

Lust muddies a high-stakes battle only one of them can win.

This was an exciting and witty romantic story where Jade is trying to protect the property that has been in her family a long time and her family secrets from the railroad that wants to build a railroad on to her property. Marcus Fitzalan goes under disguise as a man of affairs to investigate the problems the railroad is having with trying to build on Jades property. He is trying to save his brothers town and property with his investigation. It is a very exciting and intriguing story and kept my attention the entire time of reading it.

Very endearing story of a lovable scoundrel and an independent lady . Throw in some sweet and colorful characters, a train, battered woman and most of all the most precious children you can imagine. Its a wonderful story !!

I LOVE this story. From the promising beginning to the battered women and Emmy's pup, and I love the way the hero interacts with all of them. It helps too that there are two love stories in this book. I can't wait tofr Lacey's story.

After reading this, I have given up trying to decide which of Blair's stories is my favorite. All of them have such wonderful charcacters compelling stories. Have to admit that Emmy touched my heart in this one (started to tear up when she called "Muck" Papa the first time). Also enoyed the secondary romance between Abby and Garrett as much as the primary storyline. Wonderful plots weaved together to bring about a satisfying outcome and leaving the reader anxious for the next installment.
