Screw-ups don't get second chances. That's what Caitlin Malone believes when she returns to Oregon after failing her first Northstar Security assignment. When she inadvertently stumbles across a plot to steal deadly pathogens from the bio-lab near her hometown, she sees a chance at redemption.

USDA Forest Ranger, John 'Mac' MacAlistair, doesn't want to babysit the motorcycle club holding their annual rally in his national forest. To make matters worse, Caitlin is attending the rally with Mac's estranged uncle. Having her home again brings up feelings that are better left buried.

It's early September. Any spark will send the dry timber into a raging fire. The terrorists are counting on that distraction to work in their favor. When Caitlin is trapped by the wildfire, her only hope of rescue is pinned on Mac, the man she's tried two years to forget. Before they can share their feelings, Mac and Caitlin must first escape the burning forest and stop the terrorists from releasing the deadly pathogens.

I love a good mystery and when you throw in some awesome romance, well you have created a perfect book for me. Proving Ground by Stanalei Fletcher is one of those perfect books. I LOVED this story. I was completely captivated and spellbound by Proving Ground from page one all the way to end. I could not put this book down. I had to be reminded by my husband it was time to get out of the bath tub a couple of nights. I was too engrossed to have any idea what time it was. Caitlin Malone so wants to follow in her Dad's footsteps working for Northstar Security. Her first mission does not go as planned and Caitlin is broken hearted with the thought that maybe she isn't cut out for it.  I loved Caitlin this girl really is one kick butt kind of girl with strong Independence and a determination to get through anything she has to. I really admired this girl. Not only is she strong and smart but she has the abilities to take out the bad guys when she has to and in some really creative ways. John ‘Mac’ MacAlistair is not prepared to see his childhood friend Caitlin when she returns home. Mac finds himself in a position of having to go into a dangerous situation to try to help Caitlin out. If I was in trouble this certainly is one guy I would want to jump in to save me. He has great survival skills and a few creative ideas that saves both he and Caitlin a time or two.  I loved how these two worked together when times got tough. They have a really strong attraction for each other buy Mac doesn't want to give in to that attraction. He still thinks he should have brotherly feelings for the girl that he grew up with. However when he looks at Caitlin he doesn't see a sister. He sees a very attractive woman.  There are so darn many great scenes in this book. I was captivated by their adventure through the forest to try to out run the fire. Just when I thought they might be safe, something else would happen. There are some confrontations with the bad guys that are quite dramatic and full of suspense. Then there is the scenes where these two are so flammable they could almost out burn the forest fire. They have incredible chemistry.  There is a nice mix drama, suspense, mystery, and romance in Proving Ground.  I found it to be a really great read. I can not wait to see what Ms Fletcher has came up with for the next book in the Northstar series. I know this is going to be one of those awesome series that I will want to get my hands on as soon as the next book is out.  I loved Stanalei Fletcher's writing style. She has a way of really drawing me into the storyline and holding me captive. The characters are well developed. She's done a great job of creating characters that are charismatic, full of charm, character, and each has an interesting past to add to the storyline.   I was given the opportunity to read this great story so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Proving Ground.

An interesting listen with some action, lost love, family issues, drama and second chances. Caitlin is a strong woman but has an issue of thinking things out before she jumps which gets her into a mess with her job which puts her on leave. Her boss is an old time buddy of her fathers, he demands she goes home, she doesn’t want to for a few different reasons. Go home as order she does with her tail between her legs. On returning home she finds two things her father is in the hospital with issues from a long time accident from a bullet and the man she has always loved right in her face. He is the real reason she left years ago much against her father’s wishes. Her father told her if you take this job don’t come home…. Mr. Fletcher’s narration is good he does need to work a little on his women voices which are not bad just not a true female voice. He also needs to pause a little more to let you get the full effect. I am not staying it is bad by no means, and he didn’t race through it just needs a little more pause between characters, and what is going on around them. His normal voice is pleasant, it was a clear and clean audio with no background noises, no repeating of words and no volume changes. There were times when a little too much emotion was displayed and maybe not enough at other times. His male voices are wonderful, I always knew who was talking and what they were feeling. I thought his nurse was wonderful loved how she took control and you had no trouble understanding she meant business. I could not tell when breaks were taken, and I did enjoy his narration. He did bring the story a live and enjoyable. I thought it was worth my time and did enjoy the audio. The author gives a good listen with interesting characters. It wasn’t a book I had trouble putting down but wasn’t a book I didn’t want to listen to. Her characters are likable, the plot was nice along with the action. Something was missing I can’t put my finger on it but it. I thought Caitlin needed to grow up a little, the story is a lot about me, me and what I want. She isn’t a team player and it maybe the reason I didn’t really care for her was because of the voice the narrator used for her. I did enjoy a lot of the scenes, along with the danger and excitement. Is it worth your time, yes it was entertaining and I did enjoy it. I enjoyed the mystery around the plot but didn’t understand why she didn’t tell them about the two men from the start or at least once Mac got to her. It was a long time before they started looking for the man who started it all. Caitlin just never has her head where it needs to be. There was a little humor and I really enjoyed it as well as the danger. It isn’t a story I got lost in but it is a good story.

Reviewed by Caitlyn Lynch for Readers' Favorite Proving Ground is a fast-paced thrill ride from start to finish! In Caitlin Malone, Stanalei Fletcher has created a heroine we can all root for; a young woman determined to step out of the shadow of her illustrious father and forge her own path as an expert operative for the elite private security firm, Northstar Security. The only problem is ... well, there are any number of problems, really, but most of them stem from Caitlin's own near-crippling self-doubts. Is she strong enough? Is she good enough? Will she ever be really, truly, ready for the life she has chosen? A mission that goes badly south puts Caitlin back on probation and sends her home to Oregon to see her father and Mac, the love she never really left behind. Her boss thinks he's giving Caitlin time to get her head together. Problem is, work's followed Caitlin home and time is something she doesn't have. I really enjoyed Proving Ground. Too many romantic suspense novels have a plot that stretches the bounds of belief; this one felt all too real, with the ever-present bio-terrorism threat driving Caitlin's actions. I struggled to warm to Mac; I wanted him to believe in Caitlin more, to tell her that he knew that she could do anything she set her heart on. He spent a little too much time trying to protect her for my liking, especially when she'd just demonstrated how physically tough she could actually be after surviving a wilderness ordeal that would have taxed Bear Grylls himself. Still, I'll happily read anything else Stanalei Fletcher puts out; she's a great voice in romantic suspense!

Terrorists, Motorcycles, Forest Fires, Romance ---- and more! This is my first book by Stanalei Fletcher ---- and it won't be the last! Caitlin Malone so wants to follow in her Dad's footsteps working for Northstar Security. Her first mission does not go as planned because she didn’t follow orders. Broken hearted and shamed, she returns home with the thought that maybe she isn't cut out for it. Worse, she dreads a reunion with her father. Forest Ranger “Mac” MacAlister and Caitlin grew up together. She wanted to be more than friends. He kept his feelings and desire buried. Her return brings those feelings to the surface. This is an action-packed story. Caitlin finds that she CAN and DOES! Mac just finds her! I really enjoyed the story.

Caitland Malone has come home. She is suspended from work and even worse she feels responsible for her partner's injury. He was shot because she didn't follow guidelines. Now she's back in Rockton, Oregon and hoping to see her estranged father. They had a falling out when she took her job with Northstar Security. When she sees John MacAlistair again, Caitland is overcome with her feelings for him. They had been friends forever until desire got in the way. Mac keeps his emotions deeply buried. He doesn't want her to know how he feels. Why is her life out of control? Can she find resolution? This is a riveting story filled with passion and espionage. I like Caitlin. She's intelligent and strong minded. She may be hurting inside but it won't stop her from following her instincts. I enjoy a feisty heroine. Mac is just as determined. He won't back down. Their battle of wills has sparks flying. I enjoyed their love-hate relationship. It is powerful and compelling. The story is fast paced and impossible to put down. The rugged and isolated setting is perfect for this suspenseful story. The characters are well written and likeable. Proving Ground is action packed from start to finish. I look forward to more books by Stanalei Fletcher.
