Overview

Prymal Lust by Jianne Carlo

Is there a future for an aristocratic Wylfen female exiled for mating with a half-breed Rogue Wolf?

The primal call of Mate Claim sparks a battle among the three species of shifters--Wylfen, Feral, & Rogue--and has for generations. These violent feuds incite hunts by humankind, driving shifters near extinction. To protect their people the aristocratic Wylfen ban the practice of Mate Claim. When a Rogue alpha claims a Wylfen female, the mated pair forms a coalition with a Feral male. An alliance is created: Prymal, a new species & pack born of Rogue, Wylfen, & Feral. And war begins...

Tania, a Wylfen aristocrat, hooks up with a stranger right before her twin's graduation from military college. Hours later, the bottom drops out of her world when she's introduced to Axe, her twin's new SEAL instructor. Then she discovers he's a Feral Wolf, the archenemy of her people. Wylfen laws prohibit her from mating with a half-breed. If anyone finds out she's mated with Axe, exile is the least she has to fear...

About the Author

Award winning author, Jianne Carlo’s motto is simple: Alpha Me Please.

While strong heroines, exotic locations, and cultural differences are her forte, she goes weak in the knees for warriors and alphas. Send her a man with an attitude and she’ll find the right woman to tame him.

Jianne loves hot and spicy food, stomach-plunging park rides, and is kept on her toes by her Viking husband of thirty-five years, and three, handsome grown sons. There’s nothing she likes more than hearing from readers.

This book has so much to love. Prymal Lust is the first in the Prymal series. The characters are Wylfen, Rogue and Feral and even though it's different from the norm, it is all well explained and is a fresh look at shapeshifting, packs, mating rituals, and more. The instant attraction and mate recognition of Axe and Tania is hot and all of the sexy scenes add to the story. The detail of the plot is intricately woven and drives you through to see what happens. The scenes are all well written and described so you can visualize the surroundings. The independence and strength of Tania is admirable. Tania, as all Wylfen women are, was trained to be submissive to her mate, never argue, and always be a perfect lady. She hated her training and she finds when she is exiled from her world, there is freedom in being your own person and she figures out that what she was taught wasn't necessarily true in the real world. I loved the little battles for power between Axe and Tania, even though their pairing really shows how a couple should work and respect each other as a team. I would definitely recommend this book to any paranormal lover and look forward to the rest of the series.

I won this book in a contest.  Because of my appreciation I am writing a completely honest review. This was my intro to Jianne Carlo. Wow. This book is hot. It starts with sex, adds some sex, and puts it on top of more sex. Somehow in there Jianne managed to develop great characters and storyline. She has created an interesting dynamic in shifter/pack politics and society that will definitely keep a series going. I'm not sure how many books there are yet but I'm definitely going to find out. **Disclaimer** The sexual descriptions in this book are not euphemisms. She is very direct in her descriptions. Initially,  I was a little shocked. It only took me a couple of pages to get used to it though, and it totally works. There is no flowery prose, so it may not be for everyone. I HIGHLY recommend you give it a read if you are into sexy alpha shifters. This book is chock full of them.

Rating: 2.5/5 I love SEALs, and I love paranormal romance. Combine the two and I'm all over it. The world-building in the Prymal series was interesting, and there's nothing I enjoy more than protagonists who are forbidden to commingle, only to have fate throw a wrench in their plans. Tania Prokov may have been a Wylfen aristocrat, but she had a strong rebellious side. Despite her kind's oppressive rules, she lived on her own, held down a job, didn't want a mate and indulged every now and then in sexual relations with humans. She never wanted to end up like her mother, or like any Wylfen female, subservient and obedient. I liked her boldness in following her instincts with Axe, which resulted in some sweaty hotness barely 28% into the story. Their connection was intense, but for the majority of the story, I didn't feel like the connection was genuine but rather a side effect of the mate claim. Aside from Axe being an alpha male through and through (half of it I attributed to his wolf side, and the other to his role as a SEAL instructor) he was a mess whenever they were apart. It was also amusing, but not particularly sexy that the Prymal males were the exact opposite of everything Tania believed. Axe waited on her hand and foot, which irritated her, and me, at one point. There wasn't much in the way of suspense or character development, but there was a lot of sex. Like I already mentioned, I felt their connection was mostly about them being mates rather than having actual conversations. Something would happen, then they had wild monkey sex. It went on like that from beginning to end. But they were hot! Not since Rehvenge from J.R. Ward's Lover Awakened have I come across a male who could do a mate lock. At the end, I had a few questions that left me a little unsatisfied: 1) Wylfen abhorred physical flaws, and their laws dictated that cubs born with a disfigurement were to be disposed of. It wasn't explained why Tania seemed to be the exception with her mismatched eyes. 2) The third time Axe and Tania had sex, his "mate lock" kicked in (something he said he couldn't stop). Why didn't it happen the first two times they had sex? 3) Eva and Tania rode bikes to the rendezvous with Eva's sister. Why didn't they shift into wolves? 4) Why did her family allow her that much independence and her rebellious streak when a Wylfen female's role was to be obedient and subservient? It was a good story, however I wish there'd been more action and more answers that could have been elaborated upon at the expense of a few sex scenes. I couldn't tell whose story might be next, but I wouldn't mind following up on Lycus, Jaz, Bandit or The Kydd. *Complimentary copy via author for the purpose of an honest review.*

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Where to start with my review of Prymal Lust?  I don’t want to give too much away.  I loved it.  I’ll definitely be reading more by Jianne Carlo.  She has a great way of creating a new world without overwhelming you with detail, while at the same time explaining everything perfectly.  You have 3 different groups of shifters, Wylfen, Feral, and Rogue.  Usually the three do not interact, but the Prymal pack has come together to combine all three.  They want to live in peace and not worry about the hatred from the Wylfen. I probably didn’t describe that very well, but again I don’t want to give away too much.  Prymal Lust is the story of Tania, a Wylfen, and Axe, a Feral Wolf.  This is the story of their mating.  I loved the instant chemistry they felt for each other and the instant devotion, at least on Axe’s part.  He’s willing to do anything for his mate, even give her up.  I personally think he should have claimed her from the start.  I loved Tania’s bravery.  She was willing to give up her family and everything she knew to live life her way. I loved all the other Prymal members.  The instant family Tania was pulled into had tears in my eyes.  I loved them all.  I can’t wait to read their stories, especially Bandit’s. 5-Bombs Reviewed by Tracy
