Freud prophesied in 1914 that the &'grave;final decisive battle'' for psychoanalysis would take place &'grave;where the greatest resistance [had] been displayed.'' Sherry Turkle is Professor of the Sociology of Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She holds a joint degree in sociology and personality psychology from Harvard University and is a graduate of the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute. Her writings on the sociology of sciences of the mind include studies of how psychoanalytic ideas enter everyday thinking and how the pervasive computer presence and computational ideas about the mind influence the way people think. She is the author of The Second Self: Computers and the Human Spirit.
