They also learn basics of puppy handling and grooming, giving commands and teaching obedience, tricks they can teach young canines, and much more. There are instructive and charming full-color photographs throughout the book. Suitable for ages 9-12, or 4-8 with parents' guidance.

I'm 14 and I got this book before I got my dog, and it was very helpful. It tells about the stages of development and why puppies have certain behaviors, and how to correct them. Then it has tips for socialization, handling, and grooming. It even has games you can play with your puppy. Then it has tips for training, and how to teach them different commands and tricks. This book was very helpful and I would definitely recommend it.

Great pictures, concise information offered, and moves along in a fluent, relevant manner. If you have ever gone to training classes that emphasize positive training and reinforcement, this book is consistent with that philosophy. It lets children know what they can do to care and build a relationship with their puppy. It also advises them they should involve their parent in supervision in guidance, such as when a puppy is nipping. Above all, it emphasizes that a child should always remain calm with a puppy. Nicely done.
