Pure Gospel Choir

John Tesh's musical ventures have taken him all over the musical map; on Pure Gospel, which he co-produced, the layers are peeled away until we have a spare collection of, well, Pure Gospel. Performed by the Elite Vocal Choir, a group of vocalists hand-picked by producer Carmen Twillie, Pure Gospel is a collection of 14 traditional hymns performed completely a cappella. In this day and age of over- produced slick pop, it's refreshing to hear the joyous noise that can be made by a few unadorned voices. Among the strongest offerings are "Come By Here (Kum Ba Ya)," with it's old-time spiritual flavor, and "Amazing Grace," which offers a fresh take on this oft-performed classic.
