David Newman's book almost exactly describes the same things that I have been going through the past year...break-ups, depression, anxiety, anger. It's great to know that someone else feels exactly the way I do. It gives me a measure a security I suppose. Big ups to the New Man!!!!!!!

This book is great. I can't stress it enough. I was so moved by the emotions and images that I almost cried while reading some of its passages. David Newman is a poetic genius and deserves global recognition. That's all I have to say. Period. Buy this book and share it with family and friends. It is worth its weight in platinum!

What an outstanding first compilation by David Newman. Reading this book made me depressed to a point that I wanted to run out to a pharmacy and get a bottle of Vicaden and get this whole thing over with. Nonetheless, the book inspires and deviates with its own flavor of poetry. I can't wait for the next installment. My advice to anyone who's into poetry is to run out immediately (regardless of what you're doing) and get this book. Although I just realized that this book is only available online so running out isn't necessary but my point is clear, DO get this book ASAP; you won't regret it. Arnold

I am somewhat of a simpleton when it comes to poetry but boy what a great book this is. I enjoyed it immensely. Reading this book made me feel so juicy and tender, almost like a giant erotic marshmallow. Sometimes I'd read it at night while lying in my bed naked covered in melted butter. It made me feel so good. Anyway, all jokes aside, it's a great read - even for someone like me who doesn't understand poetry and is really into novels. I think all readers of this book will agree and not hesitate to say that it's purely excellent, but yet we hope the next one to be an autobiography or perhaps a novel of some sort. Arnold, NYC

This poetry is obviously the work of a brutally sensitive human being. I only hope that the process of writing these poems was therapeutic. No one should have to suffer that much.

Finally! Pure Luck & Good Fury is poetry for REAL people. The major problem that I have with most poetry in general is not being able to understand what the heck the auther is trying to say! This is not the case with Newman's book. I can almost feel his pain. I can almost see what he sees about life and relationships. The only thing I can't understand is the artwork? Maybe I will read PL&GF again to see if there is a connection, I'm sure there is!

I am shocked that someone has the chutzpah to write as candidly and as intelligently as David Jonathan Newman does. The poetry is unique by virtue of his blatant honesty and unfettered imagination. Pure Luck & Good Fury is not merely a book; it is artistic expression of the highest form; it is a trail of experiences and thoughts that breathe with colors, emotions, lucidity, and style.

If Pure Luck & Good Fury is his first book of poems, I can only imagine what the next book will be like. I read a lot of poetry, from well known authors like Billy Collins and Maya Angelou to the lesser knowns like David Jonathan Newman. I must say that Mr. Newman has indeed cultivated his own niche amongst these giants! He mixes and melds emotions with such ease that I almost felt like a manic-depressive come the last page. Godless eternal sorrow on some pages, flowery love and humor on others! I had to read each page fast because I was so curious to see what the next would bring! Get this book. Pure Luck & Good Fury may not change your life, but it WILL help you to better understand the forces that shape ourselves as human beings.

Wow! Newman's poems are passionate, personal, and emotive. Masterful use of wordplay, metaphor, and rhythm. Although the author's world is mostly one of pain, he has the uncanny ability to harvest that pain, translating emotions to words. As a reader I could indeed feel his uneasiness with life. I can see the dark and the light forces that paint his world, a tug-of-war of sentiments- self destruction and love. Pure Luck & Good Fury is not merely a collection of poems; it is a harrowing reminder of who we were in the past, who we are now, and what might become of us in the future. Celebrate this work!
