About the Author

Byron Simmons is a native of Charleston, South Carolina with interests in education, real estate and socioeconomic development. He began writing poetry around 2004 as a way to convey his outlook on relationships, social issues, and current events.

Life experiences and education laid the foundation for him to express himself through poems. Byron learned how visual and literary art had transformed social norms while taking art appreciation classes at Atlanta Metropolitan College. Later he was influenced by the contradictions in International Business, Political Sociology and Business Ethics classes at Georgia State University.

His poetry encompasses a number of diverse topics from globalization and gentrification to relationships and family life with an unfiltered point of view. The artist wants to do away with political correctness and ask each reader to honestly assess their opinions and unspoken biases on different subject matter.

Byron's first book of poetry "Overstanding" was released in 2014.
