This debut novel definitely deserves five stars. The suspense is full throttle and the details of investigations are believable and detailed. The dangers of the work are well written and also believable. The characters are well developed and each character is interesting in their own right. The plot keeps moving and brings many surprises along the way. And, there is just enough romance to soften the suspense and the characters. Jimmy's fears and strength is balanced to make him a hero to love.

I really enjoyed this book! It had a great combination of mystery and romance. This typically is not my favorite genre but it was a great story and I loved all of the characters! I would highly recommend this book! Great summer read!

Oh people, if you love suspense, intrigue and romance you have GOT to read "Purple Knot" by Raquel Byrnes. I loved, loved, loved it. I started reading the 349 page book this morning. I was so enamored that I barely put it down. Even when I did, I had to hurry through whatever I was doing to get back to it. The very first paragraph pulls you in and keeps you involved until the very last page. I love romance; I like suspense. This was the best of both worlds.

In all fairness, I must let you know Raquel is a friend of mine. However, I am an avid reader, and do not have patience for dull, predictable or overly sweet novels. Thankfully, Purple Knot is none of those things! It is a page turner that grabbed me straight away! I was pleased that the ending held something I didn't anticipate yet in hindsight could clearly see. Those are the best mysteries are they not? Her characters are interesting, complex and very engaging. I really hope we see them again in her work. I highly recommend Purple Knot, you will not be disappointed!!!

What can I say? I love reading suspense. So much the better when it has a Christian thread. Raquel Byrnes gripped me at page one and did not let go until I read the last page. I pride myself on guessing who the bad guy is but I did not see this one coming. With Purple Knot I found another favorite writer.

I just love well written romantic suspense and this certainly falls into that category. Not only is the story suspenseful, but what a fabulous job Ms. Byrnes does of making us feel what Reyna feels, starting with the helplessness of watching someone who isn¿t willing to be helped. Emotions run rampant as Reyna is put in an impossible position by her best friend¿s choices. The choices she has to make in response leave her exposed to dangers she is totally unaware of until it¿s nearly too late. Toss an ex-fiancé into the mix and you have a powder keg of emotion ready to blow with a fuse already burning. Well done, Ms. Byrnes. You kept me on the edge of my seat through it all, not knowing whodunit until the end, and the twists of the relationship between Jimmy and Reyna were heartwarming, and heartbreaking in turns. I loved it!

Byrnes crafts an edge of your seat romantic thriller with "Purple Knot." A contemporary inspirational, Reyna Cruz is a private investigator who has left Seattle to establish a life in California. When her childhood friend, Summer Evans, dies from injuries received in an assault, Reyna puts herself on the case, but solving it will take all her wits and faith in God. Reyna is working when she receives a phone call from her former fiancé, Jimmy Carbeau, Summer's twin brother. Jimmy is frantic. Summer has been assaulted and she's eight months pregnant. Reyna rushes from San Francisco to Seattle. When she arrives at the hospital, she discovers Summer has left her a medical power of attorney. Making the best decision she can with the doctor's advice and assessment, Reyna elects to save the baby and Summer dies. Despite the pain from Summer's loss, Reyna reconnects with Jimmy, who is just as passionate about finding Summer's killer. Jimmy, however, doesn't necessarily approve of Reyna's methods, but he can't deny his heart. He loves Reyna and he's willing to give their love another chance. The case heats up when Reyna is attacked in her office and her house is ransacked. The danger doesn't deter her. When a drug angle is introduced as a motive, Reyna is appalled. Summer did not do drugs. Reyna calls in all her favors to get answers, but will those answers destroy the rekindled love she's found with Jimmy? Byrnes infuses the story with just the right mix of suspense and romance. The story is told in the first person from Reyna's perspective and Byrnes does a fine job giving Reyna her own unique and distinctive voice. The descriptions are balanced and nuanced, never lingering, yet painting vivid pictures of the setting. I enjoyed how Byrnes handled the inspirational message of the story, making it feel like a natural, organic element and not forcing the religious overtones. Reyna and Jimmy are compelling characters. Both have to overcome the pain of loss, but each do it in their own way. What allows Reyna to really grow as a character is a scene in which she reaches for Jimmy's hand and asks him to pray. It's a very somber, yet poignant moment for them and defines them as a couple. The story is sweet for romance readers with Reyna and Jimmy sharing a kiss or two. "Purple Knot" draws the reader in effortlessly and doesn't let go until the last page.

Raquel was a new author for me and her book a new take on the romantic suspense I typically read. I don't normally gravitate toward books written in first person, but Raquel's was an exception for me. Her characters are well-defined and I love Reyna's sarcastic wit. There were a few typos that I hope the publisher will clear up and by no means hinder the story line. All in all I give four stars to this debut novel by a new author I will definitely read again.

Purple Knot By Raquel Byrnes Literary agent Terry Burns says exceptional Christian books are the only ones being published today because so many good books are being written. Since I read books like a hungry man devouring food at a buffet, I am seeing the truth of what Burns says. It seems most inspirational novels I'm reading are well written, tell a good story and have characters that make me care about what happens. In other words, today's Christian novelists are producing outstanding books. Purple Knot is one of these. It's unusual that the private eye who is the main character is a woman, and the gal, Reyna, keeps the reader in knots as she pursues the killer of her best friend, Summer. Those knots have nothing to do with the Purple Knot, however. Reyna's friend's brother, Jimmy, joins Reyna in trying to find enough evidence to pin the crime on Summer's abusive husband, Parker, who has left his wife bruised and broken on many other occasions. Solving the crime is not easy, however, so Reyna uses every investigative device she knows about, putting her own life in danger. But the biggest risk is when she starts snooping into Parker's private business deals. Summer was wealthy-and her husband surely wants the money. Jimmy is as committed to solving the crime as Reyna, but he also believes in leaving it to the police if going forward puts them at risk. Jimmy and Reyna have a romantic history, long ago dissolved. Will they be able to solve the murder and how will it affect their relationship? By the time you find out you'll probably lose sleep-especially if you read in bed. But you'll discover the meaning of the Purple Knot, as well as be amazed at how the tangled plot finally is tied into a beautiful bow. I recommend this book. Note: A review copy of Purple Knot was provided to me by White Rose Publishing and the author.

Though not normally a reader of intrigue, I must confess I truly enjoyed PURPLE KNOT. It was a wonderful blend of mystery and romance, and the intricate plot kept me turning the pages. The characters were well developed, and there were plot twists enough to keep anyone happy. I would recommend this book to anyone. It's a great read.
