Overview

A Purpose Under Heaven by Kristi Hurley

The setting, the early 1880s; the place, near the eastern border of Washington Territory and Oregon State. Not exactly an easy place or time to be a widow, but that's just what Linnie Bingham is. With no longing thoughts of anyone but her beloved Eric since his death over ten years ago, she resolves to live her life as a single woman doing a man's job: farming a homestead that her children would be helping her with--that is if they were still alive too. So many times she could have given in--would have given in. Yet it wasn't her strength that sustained her. It was the strength found only in the Lord, something a kind stranger passing through is so desperately searching for but just doesn't know it--yet. Through Linnie, this gentleman stranger finds love, not only hers, but of the God she serves as well. It is here where Linnie finds her purpose under heaven...and helps the stranger find his.

When I saw my wife¿s copy of Kristi Hurley¿s new book, ¿A Purpose Under Heaven¿, I was reminded of Rick Warren¿s, ¿A Purpose-Filled Life¿. I am a great fan of his book and was tempted to think this might be a how-to-do-it follow-up. I read her book in one evening and found instead it is a very tender and moving love story. My ancestors were pioneers in the Old West and I was a homesteader in Alaska. I found the characters and situations in this book to be very authentic and the story very absorbing. As I finished the book, I was left with very mixed feelings. I was happy the couple found new life with each other and with the Lord. However, I was saddened because I had grown close to Evelyn Bingham and David Hansen and the town of ¿Mill Creek¿ and didn¿t want to leave my new ¿friends¿. I can only hope that Kristi Hurley will continue with her story so I can learn more about them and their future life. Earl Fullingim Port Angeles, Washington

Great love story, inspiration, how one man finds faith! Only problem it wasn't long enough. But author is a terrific writer!

Having read and enjoyed books by Grace Livingston Hill ('The Girl from Montana' and 'The Man of the Desert') I was pleasantly captured by 'A Purpose Under Heaven' and it's simple message.

This book is a very well written book. It captivates your attention, and it is a must read. I just wished it would have been longer, because I didn't want it to end. I think she should write a sequel to it.
