Purrs of Wisdom is a book to read curled up in a comfy chair, with a steaming mug of hot tea in one hand, a highlighter in the other, and at least one cat asleep on your lap. It is replete with Moments - yes, with a capital "M" - Moments when you are inspired to close your eyes and contemplate everything in your life you are grateful for. Moments when you take a deep, slow breath and release it, feeling tension drain from body and soul. Ingrid's uniquely spiritual voice has the power to infuse a simple sentence with an epiphany, and her perceptions, expressed in beautiful, concise essays, open doors to the paths of self-awareness and personal evolution. Oh, and it has a lot of cats in it. Hence the title. Ingrid draws amazing wisdom from the examples set by her cats, but one need not be a cat person to benefit from the joys wrapped up like sparkling gifts inside this delicious little volume. The cats may set the stage, but the play is written by Ingrid, and it is her personal and spiritual growth we follow and which inspires us to embrace the joy in our own lives. Ingrid is not a guru on a mountaintop, a symbol of perfection unattainable by us normal folks. She is unafraid to let us see her flaws, both past and present, and the work in progress that is her life. She's entirely human, and this affords me real hope that I, too, might find as much wisdom - and inner peace -- as she has come to possess. In short, this is a book, not for cat lovers, but for anyone in search of a happier and more fulfilling life. And I think that's just about everyone.

While dealing with pets can sometimes be frustrating and nerve-racking, for the most part pets provide unconditional comfort, love and joy in our lives. It is with the latter in mind that PURRS OF WISDOM comes to life. Author Ingrid King skillfully illustrates how pets, especially those of the feline persuasion, can enrich and calm our lives if we pay attention. The author has compiled this book in such a way as to draw you in, relaxing your tension as you read. She relates how various cats have come into her life and helped her, sometimes taking her life in unexpected new directions. Through short essays about conscious living, King points out how one can center themselves and gain a bit brighter outlook with a little practice. She gives examples and explains that paying closer attention to our cats and their attitude can also give additional insight to helping us feel calm. King highlights various faucets of life from multi-tasking to lack of energy to negative outlooks and more. She gives simple, concise tips on managing not your life, but how you react to what life deals you. One example is learning to be grateful for even the simplest things amid all the ups and downs of life. PURRS OF WISDOM is an ideal book to add to any cat lover’s library. However, one doesn’t have to have a cat or even like cats to find enlightenment in this charming book. The reader merely has to want to improve their outlook on life and how they handle life in general. With the holiday season upon us, we are more rushed than normal trying to accomplish everything on time and perfectly. Taking a few minutes here and there to enjoy PURRS OF WISDOM might just help you survive the madness of the festivities and live a more serene life year round. The newly released paperback edition of this book includes additional chapters and photographs. FTC Full Disclosure - An eBook copy of this book was sent to me by the author in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review.

I read this book quickly, once all the way through, and then I read it again, absorbing its healing elixir in small doses, a little each day. Ingrid King's "purrs of wisdom" helped calm my worries and gave me a better outlook. Honestly, I didn't expect the book to have such a direct, positive effect on my state of mind - but it did. For example, I've taken to heart her advice to create a short "worry period" each day, and then get on with life. What a novel idea! I've also adopted her practice of starting each day (or most days) with a list of five things for which I'm grateful. No stranger to life's difficulties, Ms. King has learned to slow down and breathe, to enjoy each moment, to appreciate her loved ones, the beauty around her, and to be, well, fully alive. In clear prose, she relays simple truths she has learned from experience and from her cats - lessons that my cats, too, have taught me by simply being who they are, pure of heart and soul. As Ingrid writes, "Our cats love us unconditionally. The least we can do is return that love to them each and every day." PURRS OF WISDOM is a wonderful book, a great gift for any occasion, but also a gem to keep nearby so you can easily refer to it when you need support and encouragement. Highly recommended!

I read this book in one sitting. It is an easy and compelling read, and I was doing some self-reflection along the way as I read the essays. I've made progress in enjoying life more but this provided a good reminder of further things that I can do. As a dog owner, I'm not exactly in the target audience but I could transfer the wisdom lessons to my dog and our relationship. Deep down, all pets can teach us about loving life if we let them. Ingrid's first book, Buckley's Story, is also highly recommended

This wonderful selection of essays has something for everyone. While cat lovers will particularly enjoy this book, it is not just about cats. This little gem is a wonderful collection of philosophy and life lessons which covers topics such as how to create balance, how to combat being addicted to technology, how to stop worrying, and much, much more. This book will find a special place in your heart as well as on your bookshelf, and you’ll find yourself turning to it whenever you need a little inspiration. So snuggle up with a cup of tea and Purrs of Wisdom (and your favorite kitty). You’ll want to read it over and over, or simply open at random to find your motivational message for the day. I loved, loved, loved Purrs of Wisdom and so will you.
