Overview

Pushing Her Luck (Lucky in Love, #1) by Audra North

He says she’s a nuisance. She thinks he’s a jerk. Together they might be the perfect match.

Riordan Faraday is about to reach his breaking point. He’s got art classes to teach, a needy mum to care for, and most importantly, a painting to finish. But without time or inspiration, he hasn’t been able to paint a thing and it’s driving him mad. So when a silly American girl shows up on his doorstep with a wild proposal, he shoots her down perhaps a bit more harshly than she deserves…but it’s for the best. He can’t afford any more distractions at the moment, especially not beautiful brown-eyed ones.

Samantha Meyer—Sam, to her friends—is on a mission to find her late grandmother’s necklace. The long-lost piece of jewelry is the only thing she has left of Gram and Sam is determined to see that dream fulfilled before she returns home to New Jersey and takes up the reins of the family business. But she wasn’t counting on a sexy, surly painter to stand in her way.

One frustrated Irishman. One out-of-her-element American. They should have nothing in common, but each might be just what the other is looking for…

Are you looking for a funny, feel good romantic read? Then stop your search and pick up a copy of Pushing Her Luck by Audra North. This story has a little bit of everything; romance, heat, drama, and humor. The story takes place in Ireland, which makes for an interesting departure from the American landscape. The sexy cover is just the beginning! Samantha Meyer recently inherited a lot of money from her late and beloved grandmother. She ends up on a journey to her family's homeland, to find the necklace that her grandmother buried when she was only ten years old. Once Sam attains her need to feel closer to her grandmother and fulfill her grandmother's last wish, she believes she will finally be able to return to New Jersey and take over the high level position left vacant by her grandmother. In the process of digging for the necklace, she meets the man of her dreams, Riordan Faraday, an artist and an art teacher. Their chemistry is instantaneous, even though it takes them a little while to acknowledge it. Riordan is a good-looking grump who is in a painter's slump. Due to his upbringing, he truly believes that love can only be given if it is earned or bargained for. So as a result, he has trouble making friends and sustaining relationships. When Sam walks into his life he becomes a different person, as he realizes that he is actually lovable. I truly enjoyed this book! I found Ms. North's writing style to be lively and easy to read. The characters are well-developed, interesting and fun to be around. I felt the connection between Samantha and Riordan almost immediately, and cheered for Riordan to come to his senses in order for he and Sam to be a couple. James Browne, a famous horticulturist and Riordan's neighbor, adds some depth to an already entertaining story. This is the first book in Ms. North's new Pushing Her Luck series, and I am looking forward to book two. Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

Finding her dream & opening his heart! This book came to life for me! I loved this sweet tale and the banter between the two main characters! I could feel the emotions come off the pages... Riordan and Samantha's story touched me. Seeing how each viewed things... how she found more than she was looking for and opening his eyes to more! Wonderful growth through the story for these two. Had to laugh at certain scenes between his mom and Sam! :) An entertaining read! Looking forward to seeing his brother's story next! *copy gifted in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this. The writing was excellent, and it really allowed you into the thoughts and impressions of the characters. You understand why Riordan thinks Sam is annoying, she IS annoying. At times, maybe a little over the top, but her heart is in the right place. And, as a reader you are allowed to see this while also seeing why he would have issues with it at first. Sam is looking for a direction in her life after doing things the way her grandmother wanted. Riordan is looking for his direction and hasn't quite figured out that the reason he is not able to paint is that he has completely stifled himself in the rest of his life. The relationship is slow burn, with both of them acknowledging they are attracted to the other, but both completely unwilling to do anything about it. I enjoyed this. I have read other things by this author, and I have enjoyed them as well. I recommend this one. ***ARC provided by the publisher and NetGalley***

Cute story! It wasn't without its issues (what is Riordan going to say when she tells him she's worth $20 million, I wonder?) but if you can suspend belief and go with the flow, you're bound to have fun with this one. The back-and-forth between Sam and Riordan is what really made the book; that and all of Riordan's Irish-isms. Too adorable! Sam was more than a little flaky but it worked, for the most part. Riordan was tougher to like at times, though when we find out about his past it's hard to blame him. Together they're a fun mix--throw in a few quirky secondary characters, and you've got a fun little story! Book two has got to be his brother Michael's story, yes? Sign me up--especially after he told his big brother to just get over his martyr complex already (because, yeah, he totally needed to)--I can already tell he's my kind of guy! Rating: 4 stars / B+ I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
