Jo Green uses non gendered (they/them/their) pronouns. Jo started studying paganism in South Africa, their country of birth, in 2001 although they had studied of comparative religions prior to that. They joined a coven run by the Pagan Federation of South Africa in late 2002 where they completed initiate training. They left the coven for personal reasons.

Jo continued to study paganism in detailed and was privately tutored by their partner who was previously a member of the Pagan Federation of South Africa. In 2006 Jo and their partner started teaching and formed a much smaller more private coven with a number of friends who persisted in requesting training until they eventually conceded.

In 2008 the couple were presented with an opportunity to move to the United Kingdom, where they continue to teach in small groups to individual friends and run a small online group for trans pagans in the UK, a support group for couples where one person is transitioning and contribute to the local trans and pagan communities.
