Quick and Quirky Stories and Photos

Imagine you're sitting at the airport laughing out loud. People around you want to know what's going on. That's what happens when you read this book.

It's an absurd world, and comic relief is at hand. Quick and Quirky Stories and Photos is a quick fix; laughter is always good.

This is a collection of short short stories. These are fast reads that introduce you to some interesting characters. For instance, a superhero with a flatulence issue and a man diagnosed as "bland."

The photos provoke laughs as well. How about a "No Fishing" sign on a dock filled with fishermen?

"A clever collection that provides an effective combination of brevity and wit."—Kirkus Reviews

"Quick and Quirky Stories and Photos represents the concept of flash fiction at its best, synthesizing life experiences into vignettes of under 1,000 words. This will especially appeal to modern audiences whose attention spans or schedules limit their ability to digest longer work."—Midwest Book Review

About the Author

In addition to stories in Corvus Review, Fiction on the Web, Horror Sleaze Trash, Impspired, and 101 Words, among others, Lorin Lee Cary wrote The Custer Conspiracy (2009), California Dreaming (2017), and (based on interviews with Lu Chi Fa) My Good Fortune: Memoir of a Chinese Orphan's Success in America (2019). Quick and Quirky Stories and Photos (2024) links his interests in flash fiction with his love of photography.

As a photographer, Cary has won awards for images in Nantucket, Massachusetts, Toledo, Ohio, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Cambria, California, and his images have been published in Typehouse Magazine, Crux, and Carolina Muse.

Previously, Cary taught Labor and Social History at the University of Toledo and, as a Fulbright Senior Scholar, at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. He co-authored No Strength Without Union: Ohio Workers 1803-1980 (1982) and Slavery in North Carolina, 1748-1776 (1995). Both won the Ohio Academy of History's Distinguished Book Award.
