Humbolt¿s practical book originally grew out of a lecture delivered to high school students. The author realized that teenagers are as curious as adults about money management and, like many adults, may not understand all they need to know about making the right investments. This guide stresses the importance of long-term planning to achieve a solid financial future. Illustrated with easy-to-follow examples, the book encourages readers to set, review, and frequently adjust their financial goals and teaches them how to develop and live within a budget. It also highlights the benefits of regular savings, and clearly explains the pros and cons of investments such as mutual funds and real estate. Humbolt assures readers that they do not have to give up their educational goals, described as ¿the key to your future¿, because of financial difficulties. Students may qualify for aid, a variety of scholarships, and student loans and relevant information sprinkled throughout the book includes when loans must be repaid and how to calculate the cost of post-secondary education adjusted for inflation Each chapter ends with a series of bullet points that highlight the most important passages e.g., ¿develop a good credit rating by paying bills on time.¿ At the end, the author prompts readers to continue their research and recommends several business books and magazines. The translation flows well and is free of regional expressions however, several words lack the appropriate accents. Recommended for school and public library collections, as well as bookstores 'since students may want a personal copy for quick reference'.¿Maureen Beristain, Winspear Business Reference Lib., Univ. of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada.
