R&B Love Songs is a budget-priced U.K. compilation from Sony that features 38 songs, most of which were hit singles. Its selections span the '70s through the early 2010s, but there is a definite emphasis on later material, and the sequencing gradually works its way toward a little earlier fare from the likes of Billy Ocean ("Suddenly"), Mtume ("Juicy Fruit"), and Heatwave ("Always and Forever"). It's a decent, if rather arbitrary, round-up of popular sounds. Among the later highlights: Alicia Keys' "Fallin'," Maxwell's "Ascension," Next's "Wifey," and Angie Stone's "Wish I Didn't Miss You." An open mind is required to appreciate the full set, which ranges from Marvin Gaye to Bow Wow.
