Overview

Rabbit in Red by Joe Chianakas

Bill Wise has blood in his past, so he turns to horror films to wipe it clean. Jaime Stein has felt the betrayal of death, so she too takes refuge in the on-screen deaths of others. Now Bill, Jaime, and seventeen other horror-loving teens have gathered at Rabbit in Red Studios, the brainchild of eccentric horror producer Jay “JB” Bell, for the terror-filled, blood-drenched contest of their lives.

JB has presented this competition as a race between the best of the best that will reward the winners with cash, internships, and a career making the movies they love. But things aren’t always as they seem at Rabbit in Red, and soon life starts to imitate art. Will Bill and Jaime be strong enough to confront real horror to save their friends, or will they all fall victim to JB’s twisted plans?

About the Author

Joe loves teaching, reading, writing, fitness, and traveling. He's been a full-time educator for fourteen years. A decade of that was spent teaching high school English, and now he's a college professor of communication. Of course he loves books, so much that as a child, he'd fake sick so that he could stay up all night to finish whatever he was reading. He loves writing all sorts of stories, from horror to coming-of-age, from poetry to novels. On a perfect day, he spends a couple of hours writing and a couple of hours outdoors biking or hiking. He wishes he could travel more and still has that dream of seeing the entire world. He's been to Japan twice, once to for a college study abroad semester, and he constantly dreams of exploring new worlds. That's another reason why he writes: the worlds he wants to see come alive in his imagination and on paper. He also runs a martial arts program at his college and has earned a 4th degree black belt in karate. He's perfected a karate move that destroys writer's block.

For those enamored by horror stories this is a fun read. A great adventure with creative twists. Looking forward to the next in the series. Joe has created a world in the Red Rabbit that could become the next Hunger Games.

Rabbit in red is an amazing story. In the short time it took to read this, it has made me really think about overcoming my own fears. Absolutely the best horror type story that does not follow the traditional plot lines of horror stories. Mr. Chianakas was also a high school teacher of mine an I was so excited to be able to read this book. I would definitely reccomend to friends.

As someone who's never been into horror, this book was an awesome introduction. Going through and seeing all the references had me go and watch the movies Joe was referring to, something that no other book has been able to do before. It was a read that had me staying up late and wondering what would happen if I were to be placed in that world, much like the Harry Potter and Hunger Game series did while I was growing up. A fantastic read! Cannot wait to see what happens in the next book, certainly worth the wait I can only imagine. For a first novel, it certainly deserves the recognition it has been getting and even more. I've followed the rabbit and cannot wait to see where it takes me!

If you like fast paced action, this is for you . Being a fan of horror mkvues, this book definitely piqued my interest. The plot is well developed and moves quickly enough to keep you interested and not lose you in boring fluff. I found myself wishing I could have the time to read it in an entire sitting g. You know it's a good book when you find yourself thinking about the characters while out grocery shopping . .I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series .
