When Rachel Douglas left her aunt's house in Virginia for the wilds of the Dakota territory, she knew the journey would be long and arduous. But she didn't realize that she has been summoned west to be used as a pawn in a ranch war with her father's neighbor - or that her fierce, sudden attraction to Sager, her father's hired gun, would put her heart and her life in jeopardy.

Seducing Rachel and feeding a bitter feud between the two ranches was Sager's plan of vengeance against those who slaughtered his foster Shoshone family. Instead, Rachel's guileless mix of courage and vulnerability touches the conscience he thought he'd buried long ago, and draws them both into a passion without rules, without limits - one that will change their destinies forever...

I can NOT wait for the next books to come to continue the story of the other characters. The story grabs you from the very begining. I promise you will not be able to put the book down until the end. The journey each character takes is remarkable.

Great storyline and h/h. The storyline captured my attention from beginning to end. The author makes the reader feel a part of the story. There is a scene with Rachel (actually a few) in which I found myself laughing so hard. Both Rachel and Safer suffered, yet survived and became stronger because of their past. Great story. HEA. Enjoy. Happy Reading! ****vrnb****

Rachel's father Old Jack, sends a hired gun, Sager to fetch his daughter who has left Virginia with a wagon train heading to the Dakota territory. Sager came upon Rachel and a wolf about to attack her as he was trying to save a little girl. He arrived in time to save both. He stayed a bit on the wagon train until they could both get to her father's ranch. Sager was not accepted well as he is half indian half white man. The other people were not to kind. Rachel did not care she thought Sager was a nice man, but rough around the edges. He gets her home to the ranch a few weeks later. In the mean time they both feel an attraction to each other but Sager has a plan for Rachel that she is not aware of. Everyone seems to know but her. This was one of my fun reads from my TBR pile in between review books. I enjoyed the banter between the characters.. Rachel is trying to learn to be independent and Sager is rough but shuts everyone out. Old Jack is one of my favorite characters along with Logan. Logan is Sager's brother he is a white man and lives with their father Sid. It was touching to see a father on relationship come together. The setting was good makes you feeling like you are in the territory as well. The villains are pretty good as well and makes you want to see what is going to happen. A page turner for me.

Not bad...but nothing I would read again...to me this book lacked emotions...Ya.. there Were love scenes , but they felt rushed with no emotions ..I didn't feel like the writer drew me in. Lacking the passion and chemistry between the two characters ..

Rachel melts the iceman............................................................................................................... The poor girl has her work cut out for her. Rachel starts out a little on the weak side but her character builds strength as the story moves along. Sager is a tough nut to crack and her father is even worse. But in the end she whips everyone into shape. Highly recommend.

It's good to finally have a new author on the romance scene that doesn't write the same old drivel! Rachel and the Hired Gun catches the imagination from the start and holds the reader in its grip to the very end. I especially love that the heroine is a strong, opinionated woman who can match her man step for step. I know the author will thrill us in her upcoming novels that will continue this saga. This book is a must for all who love the wild west and those who fought so hard to make it their home.

Elaine Levine's debut novel is a suspenseful story of romance, adventure and wonderful characters. The story starts with a bang and the excitement mounts as we're drawn into the lives of the characters. Ms. Levine also creates a lush picture of the western setting. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this talented author.
