Rack and Ruin is the third book in the THIRDS series, and wow, it's all go! Now, you do need to read these books in order to understand all the nuances that are there, but trust me, it's SO worth it! Sloane and Dex continue to work on their relationship - seriously, I don't know how Dex does it?! Sloane has stamped over Dex's heart so many times, and yet Dex refuses to give up, although he is no pushover. Not only Sloane and Dex, but Calvin and Hobbs are having difficulties, and let's not even go with what Ash is doing to Cael. Throw in a knuckle-biting story that includes a traitor in the THIRDS, and you are in for helluva ride. I could go on, but I won't. I am LOVING this series, and there are just too many nuggets to mention. Things that have my heart feeling pummelled or elated, laughing out loud or wiping away the tears. And don't even get me started on that cliffhanger ending! I was so caught up in the ending that I immediately went onto Amazon to read the synopsis of the next book! Absolutely outstanding in every way, and definitely recommended by me. * Verified Purchase ~ April 2017 * Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

Dex and Sloane's story continues in the 3rd book for the THIRDS series. We see more of the characters we loved from the first 2 books, and we get to know more of the story and back story as to how the therians came about. This book can be read as a standalone, but for your reading enjoyment - I recommend reading all of this series in order. Dex is fitting right in with the THIRDS agents now. Sloane and Dex still have to hide their relationship due to policy. We also find out that there is a mole somewhere in the THIRDS agents. Dex is learning that he loves Sloane now and cannot imagine his life without him. By nature, Sloane wants to be free and may never give him the kind of relationship he craves with him. So he keeps his feelings to himself. Sloane knows he is feeling something for Dex, as he has never felt this way for anyone before. He wants to be with him all the time. For a loner, that is saying a lot. This is such an amazing and fast paced book! Full of great banter, 80's references and good friendship. I loved every minute and seriously could NOT put this book down even to eat! I found both Dex and Sloane to be charming and sincere in their honesty.

If you’ve read my other two reviews of this series, you’ll know I f’ing love it! Everything about it from the Therians, humans who shift into animals, to THIRDS, to the wonderful characters that inhabit this world. As any reader of any series, I know that usually in books 2 or 3, things usually start to lag and wondered if it would happen here. Thankfully, Rack & Ruin didn’t let me down. As Sloane and Dex work toward strengthening their relationship, Ash is busy destroying the one he’s shared with Cael. Not only that, but some strange things are going down. There’s a mole within THIRDS and someone is out for revenge. Our boys go through more than their share of scrapes and trips to the hospital. In fact, this review is uber short because I have to start book 4 because OMG. (not sharing what happened at the end of Book 3) So, if I haven’t said it before: Great character and world building in this series with fantastic characters you’ll love and hate. I hope at some point, Ms Cochet will decide to do a second THIRDS series that will be about Ash and Cael. Because, man those two deserve their own story while Sloane and Dex are having theirs! Oh, and if there’s a gorgeous, hot straight male Therian running around. My number is… Wait… you mean I can’t put that here? Dangit. Just when I thought I could get a hot-blooded Felid to come purr for me. Read THIRDS! I mean seriously – READ IT! Reviewed by a-nony-mouse for Crystal’s Many Reviewers *Copy BOUGHT for review*

Here's the thing: this book is gooooood. But the end made me FREAK OUT. Dex and Sloane are having a covert relationship. Which makes for lots of fun stealth hook-ups. About the relationships: Sloane and Ash are both Therian shifters who actually grew up together in the pre-THIRDS program. They suffered a lot, as the Powers That Be examined them, learned how the Therians worked, how they shifted, and taught them to control the beast within. It was terrifying, and Sloane is scared that Dex will leave him if he knows the truth about his history. Thing is, Dex couldn't care less. Well, that's not entirely true. He cares about Sloane being happy. If Sloane's past makes Sloane pensive, or angry, closed off, well then Dex cares. But details about Sloane's mistakes as a scared child? Pfft. Nada worries. Can I say I love Dex? I may be a human woman, and therefore thoroughly unattractive to this fictional gay man, but I swoon for him, nonetheless. He is just so fun, and flirty and intriguing. I guess that's why everyone (excepting Ash) adores him. #GuiltyAsCharged In this episode we also have Cael, Dex's foster brother, revealing his deep affection for Ash--and Ash being a bigger total D-bag than usual. Which is saying a lot because Ash is a D-bag all the time. Okay, I do love Ash, too, because I understand that he's been broken, but it takes a good bit of love to consider that his turn-coatery is actually much more than it appears. And, his repulsion of Cael's affection is for Cael's own good. Mostly because loving Ash is more difficult and painful than hugging a Saguaro cactus. The plain truth is, rogue Therians are executing humans who did a whole lot of Therian killing in the big skirmishes years ago, and it's up to Dex, Sloane and Destructive Delta crew to ride point on the capture. This is made more complicated by the revelation that a mole exists within THIRDS and all the opportunities to apprehend the offenders result in chasing smoke on the wind. This thoroughly realized action-adventure-shifter-police procedural-gay-romance is sure to satisfy the most genre-confused among us. And, I'm so eager for the next novel in the series I'm having trouble holding back the begging to Ms. Cochet. Good thing she throws out short THIRDS vignettes every Thursday on her blog. It's like a weekly hit of my fave fictional drug, which softens the withdrawl symptoms just enough to manage. Back to my post-book freak out... here's how I felt when I ended the book: SLOANE!!!!

This is more a 4 1/2 This one we find that The Order of the Coalition (human extremists) and Ikelos Coalition (unregistered Therian) are at war. And team is doing everything in the power to stop it, only to find they have a mole there mist. Dex and Sloane are still feeling their way in the relationship. And Ash has gotten even moodier and now has alienated everyone, including Cael.  The rest of the team is limping along, trying to recover from the last mission. We are introduced to more characters but this time the author gives us a glossary to help. So this one starts off with the team casing down an informant, I do enjoy the way all three books start off with a bang. But then you get almost 60 pages of relationship issues mainly between Dex and Slone. Yes, this book is all about them, again. Sure there is some other stuff thrown in but the over lined story is how rocky the secret relationship is. Then we get into the action and find out The Order of the Coalition (human extremists) and Ikelos Coalition (unregistered Therian) are taking justice into their own hands and killing people, who the team agree needs to be gotten rid of but in a lawful manner, at least most of the team but maybe not the rest of THIRDS agents. Although, both Coalitions seem to be one step ahead of the THIRDS each time they are called to a scene. I love then action/drama; the fight scene will keep you on the edge of your seat.   And this time the ‘who done it’ actually threw me! We find out more about Ash this time, his past and his true feeling concerning Cael. What a powerful ending. Yes another cliffy.  Overall I did enjoy this book, found it had fewer inconsistencies than the first two, but spent too much time on Dex and Sloane’s relationship. Almost felt like filler, to give us more pages. Even though this one still has a less page count then the first two; first one having the most. Dex was less cheeky in this one, but, that’s probably because it was set up to be more serious. I’m guessing the way we got another cliffy we will get more from the series. And I will continue to read. Even though by now, they are developing the same pattern. Also found that we didn’t get as much back story as we did w/bk’s 1 and 2. But this is one series you would have to read in order to totally appreciate it. Dynamics between everyone; why we are at war etc. I’m hoping we are done with Dex and Sloane and maybe can pick another secret couple? Love triangle Seb, Cael and Ash?  The author is an excellent word smith, and I look forward bk 4?
