Overview

Meet Jake La Motta: thief, rapist, killer. Raised in the Bronx slums, he fought on the streets, got sent to reform school, and served time in prison. Trusting no one, slugging everyone, he beat his wife, his best friends, even the mobsters who kept the title just out of reach. But the same forces that made him a criminal—fear, rage, jealousy, self-hate, guilt—combined with his drive and intelligence to make him a winner in the ring. At age twenty-seven, after eight years of fighting, he became Middleweight Champion of the World, a hero to thousands. Then, at the peak of success, he fell apart and began a swift, harrowing descent into nightmare. Raging Bull, the Bronx Bull's brutally candid memoir, tells it all—fights, jails, sex, money—surpassing, in hard-hitting prose, even the movie that immortalized it.

If you are a fan of the film (and who isn't?), you'll be fascinated by the book. Several key scenes in the book were revised for the screen the book also features Jake doing things even worse than what he does in the film.

For anyone who percieved the movie Raging Bull as a masterpiece, will embrace the book. The book gives even more insite to Jake Lamotta, as it is very detailed from his childhood to after he retires from boxing.

Jake La Motta's narrative,'Raging Bull: My Story' brings to mind another interesting narrative, one as told by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, in his narrative,'Notes From The Underground' Fyodor Dostoyevsky tells his readers to be wary of a wounded mouse who attempts to show you his wounded left forelimb because while the wounded mouse is drawing your attention to his left forelimb he (the wounded mouse)is getting ready to sucker-punch you with his right forelimb! 'Raging Bull: My Story' is a narrative where the reader feels the insults which are landed on the battered up and coming protagonist, 'You have small fists!', 'You are going to hit like a girl!' However, when Jake La Motta comes out swinging with quotes like, 'You must fight like you don't deserve to live!' or 'I must have been in a thousand fights!' The Reader quickly learns that like the members of 'Fight Club' Jake La Motta, 'signed up to fight everyone', whether it was by circumstance or by choice!
