Rain Shadow Book 1 (The Barringer Brothers) by Tess Oliver

*Complete series now available*

Luke Barringer finds himself in the desert near death, unsure of his name and with no recollection of his past. As the hot sun bears down on him, his will to live slips away, but he can't close his eyes. Sleep is the enemy and now it seems he has found his own slice of hell. But through the mist of his agony, a girl's soft voice drifts over him and the sound of it draws him away from the darkness.

While riding her horse, Evangeline "Angel" Sharpe finds a man bloodied and beaten. Despite knowing that she'll be in trouble for bringing him to the Bedlam MC compound, she takes him home to tend his wounds. While the handsome stranger heals, Angel finds herself falling for him. As the mystery of his past is revealed, she helps him struggle with the truth, a truth that will lead to his true identity . . . an identity that could destroy Angel's world.

There is mystery, intrigue, and sexual attraction in what is sure to be an amazing series by Tess Oliver. The characters are well detailed and have interesting interactions. Angel finds an injured man and takes him home. It is not a warm reception! As Reno slowly regains his memory, he wonders how he can complete his job and keep the woman he loves. Looking forward to more of the Barrington brothers! Received copy for review.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. I love Tess Oliver's books and this did not disappoint. From the very first page when Angel finds a man half dead in the desert the characters just keep getting more interesting an well developed. It's not your usual love story although there are some sexy scenes. The story centers around some strange and scary characters and how they live their life. I read the book in one day. I couldn't put it down. My only complaint is that it leaves you hanging at the end. I almost gave it four stars because of it. I hope book 2 comes our real soon. I wish it wasn't a series because I cant' wait to see how everything turns out. I highly recommend this book but be prepared for the need to wait for book 2.

I received this as an arc for. An honest review..... I loved this book... It had some mystery and hot steamy sexy scenes.  Angel finds a half dead guy in the desert and takes him to her grandfathers compound where she nurses him back to health... Luke can't remember who he is or what happened to him but he sure does fall hard for angel... The ending had a twist I didn't see coming and am looking forward to the next book!!!!

Would be a good mystery but violence and extremely descriptive trashy sex scenes were nauseating. Skipping over the sex pages didn't leave many to read but enough to know I won't be reading anything else by this person with the cess pool brain and consider myself lucky that this was a free book.

*** ARC provided by the Author in return for an honest review*** Something wonderful happens every time I read one of Tess Oliver's books. She has the ability to transport me to another world and this story was no exception. It was a sweet torture reading book 1 knowing that unlike her previous works I wouldn't have an immediate ending on my hands and would have to wait for the next installment to find out more. But it was worth it because I couldn't put it down and devoured every word. What I loved most was the mystery and suspense that came along with discovering the truth behind who is Reno, our poor tortured and left for dead hero with amnesia. Who he is and why he was left to die in a desert is just as much a mystery to him as it is to us. I truly enjoyed the ride as he tried to piece together and remember how he came to be found and rescued by Angel. Though my heart broke for him when some of his memories returned, I cannot wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds. Hurry up August!!!

This book took off like a firecracker right from the beginning. Her words allow you to picture in your mind where the man is and how he gets rescued by an Angel. When she asks his name, he can’t remember it, in fact he can’t remember anything. When she sees how badly he is injured, Angel (Evie) realized while she isn’t a doctor, she is the one who can treat him the best. That means she has to also take the risk of returning with him to the compound she lives in. The compound that is run by her Grandfather, Dreygon, President of the well known Bedlam Motorcycle Club. From the beginning Reno (his new name) is not liked by anyone, but Angel tries to work around that, going against everything she knows. She is even willing to take a chance with him. But will she want to continue in this relationship when he finally reveals that more of his memory has returned? That he now knows who he is really working for? Received an advance copy for review.

I received an ARC copy of this book and was once again truly pleased with Tess Oliver's writing. This story pulls you in from the begging and keeps you interested until the end. I can't wait until the next book comes out. The main characters chemistry is amazing and I look foward to see where their story goes, and to read more about the other Barringer brothers.

This was a totally different read for me, but I have to say I enjoyed, and think the author has done a great job with pulling the reader into the story. Great characters! On to book 2 now!

Angel's a little to ditzy and loose, the speed of which her and Luke get in the sack together show that. There's just something missing here that makes me not want to even try the sequels.

I am quickly falling in love with Tess Oliver and her stories! I read her other series (Freefall, with Nix and the rest of his crew) and fell in love. Now reading this I'm so pleased and ready for book 2!! I've tried the MC books before but they are so angry and crude, this gives you the best of both worlds. We get the hero you can love, the girl you can like and respect, the love you can't stop reading about and leaves you begging for that happy ending, but also brings you into a dangerous exciting world that is only fun in a book. You get more than just the main characters. There are several other charcters you hope develop and grow along with them and I love that. Read it one day, and buying #2 now :)

I really liked the chemistry between the two characters. It developed well in a good time frame. It was surprising to find out at the end the big secret. I didn’t see that as a possibility. I thought he was something totally different then what he actually was. This is always good. I like being surprised, especially when the surprise is better than what I had in my head.  The other characters were really interesting. I am excited to see what happens with her grandfather as the book progress. If he really is crazy or not. Also, Jericho? A hot name for a hot guy! I am looking forward to seeing how his character grows and develops as the story progresses too. I hope he gets his own gal, he needs one.  Let me start by saying that I really liked this book. There seems to be many books coming out lately about MC’s in New Adult. I have yet to read a bad one.  I give this 4 out of 5 stars. This is mainly because of two things. Its in parts which just kinda drives me crazy. Also all the books about MC’s talk about how powerful the MC is, but I never get that based on the small cast of characters in the compounds. I know people live outside them, but I still don’t get a sense that its really that many people to justify the claims the MC have about how powerful they are.  Overall a good, short afternoon summer read. No huge complaints and I recommend it. Great story. Very original. Best Tess Oliver book I have read so if you have tried her before and didn’t like her give her another chance. This book will not disappoint. Now to wait till Part 2 comes out!

My first Tess Oliver book was Freefall and I loved it. Since then, I have read all of her stories and was so excited to see a new series. This is the first book in the Custom Culture series and I couldn't put it down! The ending has a twist and will definitely leave you wanting to read more! Can't wait for the next books in this series to be available.

I've been a fan of Tess Oliver for a long time and just when I think I have her writing style figured out, she does the unthinkable and writes "Rain Shadow." This book reveals a whole new side to Ms. Oliver. "Rain Shadow" is a much grittier read and in some ways a darker story. Evangeline or Angel has spent her entire life living in the compound run by her grandfather, Dreygon, head of a serious gang known as the Bedlam MC's. She has always wanted to leave the prison that she calls home and pursue a career as a doctor. There's only so much a girl can learn on YouTube, right? One day as Angel is riding her horse, Chance, she stumbles upon a man who is close to death. It's clear that he has been beaten, with busted ribs and the globe of his ear hanging precariously. He also has amnesia so she decides to call him Reno. As Angel brings him to the compound her grandfather and his men are not pleased. It will be a miracle if Reno survives the beating he received and the interrogation he is about to get. Angel and Reno are mutually attracted to each other and that certainly doesn't go without notice from Dreygon. He has already made arrangements to marry Angel off unbeknownst to her. Just as things seem as though they cannot possibly get any worse, Reno's memory returns with a vengeance. The real questions are how long can he keep his identity a secret, how long before Angel walks away from him, and how long will he manage to stay alive? "Rain Shadow" is a short but rapid paced read that pulls you into a dark world where woman have no more value than a bargaining chip for power. I truly felt badly for Evangeline and the life she has been forced to lead as well as the life she has been denied. It will leave you wanting for more (although the author includes a snippet from the next installment at the end of this book). Now, here comes the hard part, waiting for the next book. If you are in the mood for a gritty, erotic and hot romance with a twist of intrigue, I highly recommend that you read this book. You will definitely enjoy the ride. The antagonists are borderline crazy and the protagonists are flawed enough just to keep the story realistic. Take it from me and enjoy
