This book was given to me by its co-author, Jacqueline Shannon, who is an acquaintance, because my daughter is aching to become a pop star. That seems to be the goal of many, many young girls these days, just like those of us who are their moms dreamed of becoming top models or movie stars. What I love about this book is that it is not only loaded with good advice, there is a cautionary tone throughout. Nancy Carson doesn't sugarcoat anything. Yes, there are tons of juicy anecdotes about Carson's interactions with now well-known stars early in their careers, but she shares a few horror stories, as well. And what I love about Nancy Carson herself, who I have never met, is that Shannon told me that 'she won't take on anyone whose parents are pulling them through her office door. The kid has to be the one doing the pulling.' And that's great. We don't need any more JonBenets.
