Wow! What an opening scene! Mad Dog and his crew seek revenge for his former cell mate by destroying a grave, robbing an arcade, and killing the owner. Runt, called that because of he reminds Mad Dog of another prisoner he spent time with, was supposed to shoot anyone that could have seen the robbery/murder, but he doesn’t because it was a kid. But, Mad Dog has more plans for his crew and won’t stop using them until he is done. Jason Scarsdale is thrown into the case of finding the group of killers before it is too late. He, also, has a daughter to care for and a girlfriend, Dani, who moved to Germany. He was supposed to go visit Dani for her birthday, but the case takes precedent. Then, his supervisor introduces the sexy and beautiful Tatum Harper as his new partner. The story picks up pace with the team trying to solve the case and find these serial killers. There is a lot of action and suspense – enough to keep the reader engaged and wanting more. The clues don’t lead to where they need to, and Jason and his new partner are racing against time! I have to say that bringing Tatum into the dynamic of Jason and Dani’s relationship worked out really well. It provides just the right amount of angst and jealousy. One of the best parts is seeing how Dani and Tatum interact with each other. One is his partner in love, the other is his partner responsible for having his back on the job. Talk about tension! I really enjoyed this story and all of the action throughout the pages. If you like a really good, action packed, intense, crime story, you’ll love this one, too. *Copy provided for review.

Reviewed by Chris Fischer for Readers' Favorite It was clear to me when reading Rampage: A Jason Scarsdale Novel by Alan Brenham that this author truly knows his stuff. Written as a gritty detective novel, Rampage follows Detective Jason Scarsdale as he transitions back to the homicide division from the sex crimes division in the Austin police department. Assigned a new partner, the enthusiastic and highly attractive Tatum Harper, Scarsdale gets prepared to chase down a vicious gang already accused of several brutal murders. With death tolls rising and a trip with his daughter to visit his romantic partner, Dani Mueller, in the offing, the pressures on Detective Scarsdale mount. I love police procedurals. Love them. The mystery, action, adventure and excitement of the books have always intrigued me and kept me coming back for more. But I must admit that I’ve been getting a bit jaded lately. So many of them seem the same, it’s almost as if some authors are following a script. Not so with Alan Brenham’s Rampage: A Jason Scarsdale Novel. This book had me hooked from page one, and took me on a wild ride from there. The character development, pacing, scene development and overall feel of the book were spot on. I meant to pick it up and read a few chapters before bed; instead I plowed through the whole thing, determined to get to the end to find out what happened. Rampage would appeal to any reader who enjoys action/adventure, mysteries, detective books or police procedurals, or any reader who just likes a good book in general. This is the first book that I’ve read by Alan Brenham, but it certainly won’t be the last. I can’t wait to see what this author has for us next!
