BJ Daniels has done it again! I should have realised what an intriguing, fast paced romantic suspense this would turn out to be - a really enthralling page turner, IMHO. It features Hawk, one of the Cahill brothers, and his first love ‘Drey’ - Deidre Hunter. They were together throughout their teens but split after tragedy and misunderstandings tore them apart. Now she’s getting married to an out of town business man, Ethan, and Hawk is determined not to intervene even though he still loves her. At the wedding reception, Ethan announces that he and his bride will be living in the newly constructed home, Mountain Crest, on the outskirts of Gilt Edge rather than his penthouse apartment in New York which is where Drey had expected to be moving. After that shock and seeing inside her new home for the first time another surprise is in store for Drey as her new husband mysteriously disappears on her wedding night leaving no clue to where he has gone or why. Drey starts to question her own sanity as crazy things start happening in her new fortress home situated right next to where Hawk lives. Hawk can’t resist coming to her rescue and he believes her. Just what is happening to her - and why? Where has her new husband disappeared to? Can she trust his brother, Jet, who just turns up out of the blue? There are definitely more questions than answers in this story and it is a real page turner as you seek to uncover the answers. Interwoven into this is a second thread involving Billie Dee who is searching for the daughter she was forced to give up as a baby. There are hints, clues and discoveries to be made as the story progresses. I found it an intriguing read with great characters, unexpected humorous moments and very dramatic scenarios. It is a great read and works well as a standalone. I’ve only read one other book in this series so far but definitely intend catching up on the others when my tbr pile is lower. I’m very impressed with how the author manages to keep the reader on tenterhooks in this suspense filled story and I’ll definitely be looking out for more books by them in future. I requested and was given a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

A good read & recommended. A higher rating would be given if the story didn't jump from the main story to another in the middle of an interesting part. Because they eventually intertwine at the end it did make sense. However, while actually reading about the 'rancher' it was frustrating, for me, that the author chose to jump all around.

This intriguing volume in the Cahill series was taut with suspense and included a generous dollop of second chance romance. There were several compelling mysteries to solve and secrets to reveal. The evidence was muddled concerning the incredibly naïve Drey being set-up, gaslighted, or losing her mind, and although I had strong suspicions as to who was behind her tribulations, I couldn’t discern the why. And I loved that. Ms. Daniels has skillfully penned a crazy good mystery as her writing kept me attentive, on-edge, and highly curious. The separate storylines wove in and out until combining seamlessly into a satisfying conclusion. The final installment of this beloved series is in the works and I look forward to seeing how this crafty writer wraps things up.

I cannot begin to say how much I loved this book! I could not put it down, but I had to - to sleep, to eat, etc.! I sure didn't want to though! As it was, I read it in 2 days and when I came to the end, I let out a long sigh..... B.J. Daniels has done it again. I don't know how some people couldn't just love this book! It has so many roller coaster moments that I was turning the pages as fast as I could! I'm not going to retell the story but Drey and Hawk have been a couple for years and then tragedy & mistrust tore them apart. It's a hard thing when you realize you should have stayed with your first love but then it's too late! Drey is already married to someone else but "newsflash" - Ethan (the husband) hasn't been seen since he dropped Drey off in their bedroom on their wedding night! Suddenly the brother shows up the next day and Drey didn't even know Ethan HAD a brother! This story had me guessing at every turn and just when I thought I had figured something out, ZAP, something new would happen! I loved how Hawk's family was involved too. I love when characters from previous books pop up in new books! You wont regret reading this fabulous book! The characters, the story line, the twists and turns, and the ending were all wonderful! There is a continuing story of the cook at the family café, Billie Dee too so I enjoyed learning more about her story. I received this book free from the author but was not required to write a review. All these opinions are my own. I heartily recommend the book, as you can guess!

A brilliantly concocted masterpiece! Turning, she saw a crow staring at her from the balcony with its beady little dark eyes. The bird flapped its silken ebony wings at her and hopped to the chair closest to the open door. Wasn’t there some superstition about crows and death? Rancher’s Dream by B.J. Daniels is a brilliantly concocted masterpiece of western romantic suspense. It is the sixth installment in the author’s Montana Cahills series. However, this tale works very well as a standalone read if that is your preference. As with the other Montana Cahill books, this installment is about one of the Cahill siblings. The focus this time around is on Hawk Cahill and his long-time love, Deidre Hunter. The ominous mood is set from the beginning. As the story opens, Dierdre “Drey” Hunter Baxter has given up on ever reconciling with her true love, Hawk Cahill, and married Ethan, a handsome, mega-rich businessman, after a whirlwind courtship. She was surprised at their wedding reception by her husband’s announcement that they would not be living in his penthouse apartment in New York City miles away from Hawk as she’d expected. Instead, her husband plans to have them reside in Mountain Crest, or as the locals call it, Baxter's Folly – an ultra-modern, high-tech glass monstrosity built into a mountain overlooking Gilt Edge. That’s only one of many revelations to come as her new husband disappears without a trace on their wedding night whilst a stranger shows up the next morning claiming to be her husband’s brother. Meanwhile, in a second interwoven thread, Billie Dee’s quest to find the biological daughter she had given up for adoption progresses. Rancher’s Dream is a second chance at love story with just the right amount of sexual tension. That said, the suspense takes center stage for most of the tale with premonitions and seriously bad vibes adding to the ever-present danger in the unfolding story line. Drey and Hawk share a long history together but a tragedy and mistrust drove them apart. Then, they were both too stubborn to bridge the gap between them. Even so, when Drey, now married to another man, believes she’s losing her mind and starts having hallucinations and periods which she can’t remember, it’s her ex-boyfriend, Hawk, who she turns to in her distress. I loved how Hawk couldn’t help himself as he was all there for her despite his own misgivings and the wall between them. The characters are believable and Drey’s distress is tangible as she is frightened out of her mind. Fans of the series will enjoy the updates on previous favorite characters which are interspersed throughout. B.J. Daniels is an awesome storyteller. Rancher’s Dream is a page-turning thriller that you won’t want to put down. Just when you can’t breathe from the building suspense, she provides a bit of relief with a short respite via Billy Dee’s story. This book kept me up way past my bedtime as sleep was impossible until I’d followed the mystery to its shocking conclusion. Teeming with twists and turns, I was kept guessing until the end. Now, I can’t wait for Cyrus Cahill’s story coming in November!

Holy cow! Could B.J. Daniels have packed more fun, romance or intrigue into this novel!? This is a story that grabbed me from the opening line and kept me engaged the entire 363 pages! As with the other Montana Cahill books, this was about one of the brothers: Hawk and his long-time love Deidre Hunter. Hawk and ‘Drey’ had been together since school days, always planning on marrying. But tragedy and mistrust collided and tore them apart. Now, Drey is marrying a rich businessman and planning on living in Gilt Edge – much to Drey’s dismay. She thought they would live in New York, miles away from Hawk – she would never have to see him. But, Ethan, her new husband has built a fortress right near the Cahill Ranch. Drey resigns herself to seeing Hawk all the time. When Ethan disappears and Drey is all alone in the huge impersonal house that Ethan built, she begins having hallucinations and moments where she can’t quite remember anything. With no Ethan to turn to, she calls on Hawk. He seems to be the only one that believes there is a threat to her. However, they still have the past to overcome and he has to admit he still loves her in spite of everything that happened between them and the fact that she is now a married woman. There is also the story of Billie Dee and her search for her biological daughter she gave up for adoption. And we have the back story of Hawk and Drey. Every page makes you want to turn the next and the next and then it’s three in the morning and you still haven’t finished the book! Argh!! B.J. Daniels is a great story teller. She weaves all the details in and never leaves you hanging with a loose end. She breaks up the suspense at just the right time with the story of Billie Dee and then brings you back into the thrill of the Hawk/Drey story. I received this book for free for an honest review. I would not hesitate to recommend this as a stand-alone book or as part of the Montana Cahill series. It’s a good book and you won’t be sorry you read it. You will just be waiting for the next installment of the series.
