Use it everyday and this is about the 5th one I've purchased.

My sister is an avid crossword puzzle fan. She has tried several other crossword puzzle dictionaries but this is her absolute favorite. I gave her a copy a few years ago and she wore it out - literally. Kept using it even when in 3 pieces. So I bought her another copy. She thinks it is the best one out there.

I origianlly bought this beacuse the NY Times Puzzle hard cover edition was not available. The strong points of this volume include focus on popular culture figures such as actors and writers, etc., movies, televison, award winners, and literature. However, I did not find as authoritative or comprehensive as the Times volume in the areas word definitions and geographic locales.

While it's nice to have word entries broken out by the number of letters, I find my trusty crossword dictionary compiled by Edy Garcia Schaffer (Putnam 1995) is still the reference I turn to when I get stuck. The Schafer book includes many more entries under each word and includes related phrases.

My Dad does crossword puzzles and loves this book but keep in mind it's much bigger than regular paperbacks. He wanted something to carry with him to work but it's too big to carry. It's the size of a hardcover. I think they should have mentioned that in the info about this book so you know before you buy it. So now you know...
