New Adult Romance

Life is random...

19-year-old Jess Donovan knows better than most that life is random. Her mom is dead, and she's on her own, patching together a living as a waitress when a car crashes through the restaurant where she works. In two seconds, she loses her job, watches her best friend hauled away in an ambulance...and meets Tyler Smith, one of the hottest, most fascinating--and mysterious guys she's ever met.

Both for the good and the bad...

Within days, Jess is swept up into the mesmerizing force that is Tyler. Their every touch sizzles, every kiss dissolves them both, and the sex is...fierce. But there's more to Tyler than his hypnotic eyes. He's adrift, too, and his body--and his soul--are covered with scars. How can she find herself with a guy who is lost himself?

Until you take charge....

Jess is determined to find her way, and make a life that is better than the one she was given. But how?

This is an exceptional story about the randomness of life, the people who directly or indirectly influence your life and sometimes how life just happens and like sifting sand you can't control or harness it. I smiled, chuckled and clutched my heart throughout this story and really can't wait for the second book and the continuation of Jess' and Tyler's story...or maybe just Jess' story..who knows!!

Jess is struggling to make ends meet. When a random accident shatters her life, she is forced to make changes. She needs to find a new job and new friends. Is she making the right choices? Jess feels abondoned since she lost her mother in a freak accident. She feels that her life will never be the same. She wonders if we control our own destiny or do random incidents dictate our path? Jess is a hard worker. I liked her attitude. She won't give up. When she meets Tyler, she's drawn to him and senses that there is a connection between them. I liked seeing them together. I know that they each suffered and have buried there pain. I was drawn into their story. Random was an emotional journey. Lark O'Neal wrote characters that I liked. The ending leaves me with so many questions. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the Going The Distance series. I need to see what happens next.

I loved this book! I am not sure where to start. There were so many things going on in this book. No matter what, I was cheering for Jess to find her HEA Rick was a jerk + creep I was on the fence for Tyler. He seemed like a nice guy, but he had this short temper. He would go off at the least provocation. I would like for Tyler to be more open about his emotions to Jess I still think that he is holding himself back from Jess I would like to know the end of Jess's story

WoW! What a great book. I stayed up 1/2 of the night to finish reading it. I don't have an ereader, but after reading this particular book--I'm hooked, don't get me wrong, Still a fan of print books, but this was awesome! This was my first read of a book from Lark O'Neal. You start on the first page and you're drawn in--the book is written as if you are right there with the leading lady, Jess Donovan, who has had a lot of Random bad stuff happen to her. Rick is her cruddy (ex) boyfriend who doesn't understand that NO means NO! Tyler Smith is her hot, hot new flame, who is a rich boy, that has no business being with her, but they don't care & want to be together anyway. He has lots of issues, but who doesn't-both of their issues continue to come out, through the book. Electra, her caring neighbor. Virginia, her coworker at the diner where they both waitress. Henry, her wonderful, slightly crazy, hoarding, too many dogs stepdad. The author weaves her tale around these key characters, leaving you wanting the read the next page, and the next, and the one after that..... A car crashes into the diner where Jess and Virginia both work, changing their lives forever. In the blink of an eye, Jess is unemployed.

This is a contemporary romance set in Colorado featuring Jess Donovan who lives a hard luck type of life scraping money between checks whose life seems to take a turn for the better when she meets Tyler Smith. The story was okay and although the heroine is admirable in meeting the adversities in her life, I just got annoyed by how immature many of the characters acted. Thanks to the Inner Circle for the copy of this book.

3.5 Stars I had mixed feelings about Lark O’Neal’s Random. I had a hard time giving this book 3.5, I wanted to give it more because I liked the premise, the story, and the characters, but…well, let’s just dive in. What I liked and found to be the 5-star aspects? The writing! The stream-of-consciousness style Lark implements was unique, rarely seen, and added to feeling like a part of the story. Written in first person of Jess, we get a sense of who she is, her personality, and her reactions to life. As a nineteen-year old, living on her own, the stream-of-consciousness writing is realistic to what really goes on in the mind of someone in this place in life. Tyler won me over instantly; sweet, helpful, gorgeous, yet incredibly troubled. No matter what happened, what he said or how he reacted, I wanted him to win Jess over. All of the other characters add to the complexity of the story as well as to Jess and Tyler’s relationship. I may be biased, but my other favorite aspect is the setting in Manitou Springs/ Colorado Springs (yup, Colorado native-ish, right here) Why I didn’t give it a 5-star review? It seemed all over the place in several events, jumping from one thing to the next pretty quickly without much closure (if any) from what was happening before. I didn’t feel some spots got as in-depth as they could have and as I would have liked.  And finally, more grammatical errors than should present. Overall, I really enjoyed the story of Jess and Tyler and I am excited to see what happens with them individually and together in book 2. (I received an ARC from the author via NetGalley for my review and this is my honest-to-goodness, straight from the heart review!)

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Random is the story of 19 year old Jess and how random events can change the course of your life. She is a waitress struggling to make ends meet when a car crashes into her work. She is out of a job and meets Tyler. The connection between them leads her to a new job and everything in her life changes when event after event changes the course. Her and Tyler start a relationship and she is determined to make it on her own. I liked the story and the characters ok but I didn't fall in love with them. This was a pretty quick read for me and I felt like the characters could have been fleshed out more or the plot itself so that I felt a stronger connection. I did like them but just didn't feel their feelings or the conncetion between them very strongly. The story itself moved a little quicker than I would have liked. I am all for instant feelings between H and h and at parts I felt it but other times I would have loved to slow down a bit and watch them fall for each other. The plot was good and I liked that it was a bit different than a lot of books in this genre. The story ends in a way that says there will be other books and I would read them to see what happens with Jess.
