"Ransomed" is a fictional account based on the results of national godlessness, suicide, alcoholism, and drug abuse. It is the story of the plight of abandoned children in Russia. The story of children left on the door steps of state orphanages; with little hope for the future. This is David Valensky's story of personal loss, sacrifice, and the struggle he faces in choosing between the call of God on his life, in a mission to street teens in Russia, and a romance with an unbeliever. This is Karina Svetlana's story, an orphanage director, filled with bitterness and mistrust, trying to forget her past. It is the story of Jared and Vanessa Williams and their attempt to adopt a Russian orphan. "Ransomed" is inspired by Van Hierden's own experience in adopting five children from Russia. Van Hierden is a gifted writer who reaches into the deepest recesses of the heart to produce an empathy and compassion, requiring an active response as she exposes the dire needs of the abandoned children of the world. Her writing depicts the raw emotion of hopelessness, rejection, and fear. Compelling and riveting.
