About the Author

PAUL ZINDEL (1936-2003) wrote more than 40 novels, including The Pigman, one of the best-selling young adult books of all time, and Pardon Me, You’re Stepping on My Eyeball! His Broadway play, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds, won him a Pulitzer Prize and was produced as a film directed by Paul Newman.
Mr. Zindel taught high school chemistry for ten years before turning to writing full-time. His work as an author brought him to exotic destinations around the world, from Australia’s Great Barrier Reef to the monkey forests of Indonesia. Drawing from those experiences, he created The Zone Unknown series—packed full of horror, humor, adventure and bravery—with reluctant readers in mind. It includes six titles: Loch, The Doom Stone, Raptor, Rats, Reef of Death and Night of the Bat.

Raptor by Paul Zindel What would happen if you lived in present-day Utah and your father was a paleontologist and he stumbled across an actual Raptor egg? Read on to find out what Zack does. Zack is a fun loving and adventurous teen who grows attached to Honker, the young raptor. Uta, his native american friend tries to stop him from going after the raptor after its mother takes it back. Can they track it down in the old abandoned mine. But first they have to make sure that the house is fixed-the mother literally destroyed it. Follow this brave little team as they travel through the mountains as they come across proof that dinosaurs do exist. Theme- you shouldn't set your hearts desire on something that won't last. If you like this book, I suggest the Jurassic Park series. I relate this book to my sisters, who always want things, but loose them, and another book with this theme is Where the Red Fern Grows! I loved this book, because it has lots of dinosaurs, which I love, plus lots of nature.

If you like dinosaurs and scientific things, then you¿ll love Raptor by Paul Zindel. Pretend that you just discovered a large egg that hatches and produces a baby raptor. Zach is a clever, sneaky person. Professor Norak is a scientist who wanted to research Raptor. Mario is Professor Norak¿s assistant. Uta is a young Native American girl. In the story Professor Norak discovered a large egg and wants to discover what kind of creature will hatch from the egg, so he could make a new discovery. I would recommend this book to the age of 9-11.
Paul Zindel was born on May 15, 1936 in Staten Island, New York. His father also named Paul, left Zindel, his older sister Betty, and his mother for a girlfriend when Paul was 2 years old! This event began Zindels early adventures. After his father left, Zindels mother started moving town to town and from job to job. From shipyard worker to dog breeder next Betty Zindel seemed unhappy to keep any job. Yet Zindel offered a compliment to his mother: ¿what mother lacked in money, she made up for being able to talk a mile a minute.¿ Zindel¿s mother constantly threatened suicide. Zindel described his home as a ¿house of fear¿. He coped not only by creating a fantasy life, but also wishing he would be abducted by aliens. In 1951 when Zindel was fifteen, his wish to escape from his home was granted. He also wrote Loch.
When I found this information I got a strong connection with Zindel. My parents got divorced too and it¿s hard to handle, but I¿ve gotten used to it.

Are you intrigued with dinosaurs? If you are, then this is your lucky day because Raptor is the book for you! Raptor is about a California boy and his Indian friend Uta. Mr. Norak, a paleontologist, and Zack¿s dad got attacked by a Raptor and is found in a landslide. Uta gets him medical attention. While Mr. Norak is going to the hospital, Zack asks Uta to take him where she and her uncle found him. They checked out the landslide and then went into the mine. When they were looking around in the mine they found an egg, and soon found out it was a dinosaur egg. After putting the egg down in the bathtub, an animal hatched. He didn¿t believe it at first, but thought it was a Raptor. Zack named it Honker. A short time after, the baby Raptor¿s mom came to try to take it away. Eventually, she got him back and took him to the mine. I won¿t tell you the rest but these are some questions you should ask yourself. Are there any plot twists and will they try and get Honker back? Would you like to find out? Read this book! I recommend this to dinosaur lovers and people that just love a good book.

I had seen this book in passing but had never got a chance to read it until i was tossed into the clink. Uta and Zack's struggle with overcoming their inner demons and releasing that pent up emotion on the cave dwelling raptors really opened my heart to a new way of life. But the raptors and gore and death and blood and screaming and graphic images and sexual inneundos and violence and just absolutly everything except Uta and Zack was what made the book so frigg'n awesome. I totally recommand this book to everybody, especially adults because the children don't understand the true moral and themes of the story. I gave it a poor rating because it was a waste of my day.

Raptor was an OK book becuase some people died and raptors are cool. It was kind of boring at some times becuase zack and uta arent doing anything.

This book was alright. It had some boring parts like the beginning and in the end it was getting better because the dinosaurs were killing the guys, but it was a good book. This book could not be real becuase there are no dinasours in UtahOr any where else.

This is a very well written book with graphic descriptions. I could not put it down once I started reading it. I don't like to read that much but this book caught my attention, pulled me in, and wouldn't let me go until I finished the book. The way it tells every little thing is just amazing. If you like suspenseful, exciting, scary books, then this is the book for you. If you read this book you will want to read every book of Zindel's. This book is so great it should receive 20 stars. I love this book and it should be enjoyed by every person.

This book reminded me a little of Doom Stone, which Zindel also wrote. It was very good and got me into his books. I gave it three stars, but if their was a half star I would add it. I recomend it to readers into sci-fi or horror.
