Branwen Riley has no idea who to trust. She's had the Gift since birth, but she has no answers for the leukemia threatening her life. When she's asked to enter a treatment program that may offer a cure, she comes to suspect that the geneticist in charge might only be interested in passing her Gift on to others. Her best friend Cecily is dating the geneticist's son Nico, and now she's spiking Branwen's IV. When Cecily dies in an attempt on Branwen's life, the only person who might have the answers is Nico. Can Branwen discover the truth, or will she be next to die?

The story of Branwen Riley, will have you turning the pages and staying up to finish the book. It's fast paced. with tons of action and a great cast of her friends and those who want to see her dead. This book, is a gift that will have you waiting and hoping there is a next book. This is Matt's first book, and what a enjoyment. Great story line.
Raven’s Secret by J Matthew McKern is an intense, fascinating book. It is told out of order, each chapter is in a different place on the timeline, but it is very clear and easy to keep track. The writing is strong and suspenseful, with a great balance between description, dialog and inner dialog. I was drawn in from the first paragraph. And I absolutely love the descriptions of how it feels to transform from human to raven and back. This is absolutely NOT your typical supernatural teenager book! It is touted as a YA book, but I highly recommend it to anyone age 16+.
