I am trying to reconcile my feelings regarding this story. It was different than most. The writing was good but since I just finished it the feelings are still fresh in my mind. I found myself feeling badly throughout most of the book. I want to read to cheer me up. Both leading characters were sweet in their own way but his being oblivious for 8 years was frustrating. Going back and forth in time as well as adding secondary characters was distracting. If it had just started in the beginning and went forward then those two things would have a cohesive rather than the feeling of jumping around. His wanting to give her a child before leaving her to running off to be with old girlfriend and raise her two children made him look as if his own child's wellbeing was not important to him. It could have been so much more if he had at least shown some feeling being torn between his old girlfriend and his own child. I guess I would have felt better if he wasn't made to be so shallow through out the entire book until the last few pages.

Ravishing The Heiress contains Sherry Thomas' exquisite prose and a heartbreaking plotline on the way to a well-deserved happily ever after. It was love at first sight for 16 year-old Millicent Graves. As the daughter of a man in trade, she has an ample dowry, but no pedigree. Conversely, 19 year-old Lord Fitzhugh recently inherited his title, property and a huge debt from a distant cousin. Only an advantageous marriage can help his prospects. Unfortunately, Fitz is in love with Isabelle Pelham and finds it repugnant to marry for money. However, he is a minor and his guardian insists on a marriage to Millie. Throughout their marriage, Millie hides her love from Fitz. She fears if she tells him and he rejects her, then she will lose all hope that he will ever come to love her. So instead, Fitz and Millie build a wonderful friendship and partnership without addressing their marital future. Before they wed, Millie made a faustian bargain: Fitz can go on with his life as if he were single, then in 6 years they will consummate the marrige. Believing he will never care for Millie, Fitz counters with 8 years. The 8 year anniversary is fast approaching when the newly widowed Isabelle comes back on the scene. Will Fitz finally realize he has fallen in love with his own wife and best friend or will he instead choose his one-time love, Isabelle? If you read any historical this year, it must be Ravishing the Heiress. In this second book in the Fitzhugh trilogy, Sherry Thomas packs more emotion into a single page, then most writers do in an entire book. Millie and Fitz are wonderful characters that slowly reveal themselves through a series of flashbacks. This book is destined for any reader's keeper shelf.

Loved Beguiling the Beauty and meeting the characters from this book. I had a certain expectation of the story, but it was blown out of the water (in a good way). Their story of companionship that turned into love and passion is lovely and sweet and I enjoyed reading every single word.

Fitz is forced to marry Millie for money when they are both teenagers. Fitz is particularly resentful because he had to give up the love of his life in order to save his inheritance. He and Millie reach a deal to wait 8 years to consummate their marriage - when Millie turns 25. During the 8 years, they rebuild his estate and take over her father's business as partners. She falls in love with him, and he comes to enjoy their life together. Then just before their 8 years are up, the woman he gave up suddenly becomes very available and he is more than eager to pick up where they left off. First though, he has to do his duty and try to have an heir. This book would have been very lovely had it been about Fitz and Millie. Yet, the author needlessly complicates things with Isobelle and it takes away from the main storyline. It was distracting and unnecessary. Without Isobelle it might have been a 5 star books. Maybe.

Millie's quiet strength, integrity and bravery is admirable but also frustrating. Fitz, the man she loves, but does not return her feelings, fails to see the treasure he has before him. His actions and choices become more complicated when Isabelle, the love of his live returns a widow. Well-written story that proves that friendship is essential to building lasting relationships. No matter how much Fitz or Isabelle might want to relive the past or "pick up where they left off", it is impossible to have the life they should have had when their lives moved in different directions. Be prepared to cry and have with lots of tissue while reading.

I've purchased 6 romance books this week, and this was the first one worth reading. My heart, broke a few times while reading this book, I even cried. The ending made me happy, however I wish the ending would have had a bit more umph. Needless to say, it was worth the read and I'll being keeping this one on my Nook to read again.
