Rayne has been fighting for her life for three years against an alien enemy, on a distant planet, with no hope of rescue. When help finally arrives, it becomes a mixed blessing, because something is not right in her head. Psychological trauma, rage, and bitterness are the least of her worries as she fights for control over her mind. If only that were her only problem. The military suspects she's hiding something, they want it for themselves, and they're willing to do anything to get it. After losing everything, they're seeking to take the last thing Rayne has...her freedom.

Fast paced action with great characters. Taft is my favorite. The banter between characters really makes me love the book. Rayne is a good protagonist, but I found the side characters just as entertaining. I've heard there is a second book coming out soon and I hope he gives us a little more background. This book is definitely worth the money.
As a first, Roger does incrediably well painting the scenes and imagery. While it isn't a gore book, it is a bit gritty, but a fun ride, especially for the video gamer mech scifi fan. This series starter starts you off in one direction, but you end up in a completely different direction. It has an ending that you just don't see coming. A perfect jumping off first for his second work following shortly, "Rayne Again"
