A lifetime ago, he was my world.
But then I ran, and swore I'd never return.
Never is a long time.

It's been eight years since I've been back.

Eight years since I've faced the consequences of that decision.

Eight years since I've felt his lips on mine.

They say everyone deserves a second chance, but how could I seek forgiveness knowing the truth of what happened all those years ago will only destroy us in the end?

WARNING: When reading a book written by J.L. Berg, you MUST make sure you have the following items:  A FULLY CHARGED E-READER, TISSUES AND BATTERIES (come on, ladies…do I really need to explain that one?).  J. L. Berg is one of the most talented people I know. If you’ve followed my reviews then you already know how gifted she is. Her debut novel was a beautifully written, emotional story and everything she has written since is just as amazing. I’ve told her many times that her stories are so incredible that they would be five star reads even WITHOUT all the mind-blowing, realistic love scenes. I DID tell you to stock up on batteries, didn’t I? In the previous books, we were briefly introduced to the elusive but sexy Garrett “Goober” Finnegan, Clare’s little brother.  We learned that the fun, carefree little brother Clare and Leah were used to turned into an overworked, distant shell of a man. In Ready for You, we get to find out exactly what happened to make him that way. Ready for You is the story of Garrett and Mia, “the one that got away”, or in this case, “the one that RAN away”. Eight years ago, the day before their high school graduation, Garrett proposed to Mia and she said yes. They had big plans: get married, go to college together, fix up a house, raise their children and live happily ever after.  One minute they were blissfully happy and the next, she was gone.  No one knew where she was.  The only thing he had to remind him of her was the heartbreaking note she left telling him it was over. So Garrett went to college. Alone. He gave up on the dreams they had shared and instead, he became the opposite of everything he’d ever hoped for.  For eight years, Garrett walked around like a robot; working ridiculous hours at a job he despised, keeping himself busy so that he didn’t have time to think of the blue eyed, brunette girl who ran away with his heart. Every night he dreamed of her. Every day he pretended she didn’t exist. No matter what he did, his heart was waiting for her…. For eight years, Mia walked around doing the same; working a job she despised, keeping herself busy so that she didn’t have to think about the tall, dark, perfect man she had to leave behind. When Mia left Richmond, Virginia, she took nothing. She walked away from her trust fund and everyone she had ever known and began a new life. A life she hated. A life she was stuck in…until she wasn’t. When her new life gets turned upside down, she drives right back into her old one. No matter how hard she tried to stay away, her heart wants him…. When one chance encounter brings them face to face, everything changes.   Two people. Two broken hearts.  Will Garrett and Mia let go of the past and have a future? Or is the secret Mia has been keeping enough to destroy Garrett’s heart forever? Garrett and Mia are coming. Get READY.  **THIS BOOK DESERVES SIX ORGASMIC STARS**

I loved the first two books in this series so I couldn't wait for this installment.  I didn't think it could possibly be better than the others but I was wrong and I couldn't put it down.  This book will take you on a wild ride and have you going between laughing and crying the whole way through.  I fell in love with Garrett and Mia but what I really love about this series is the family and friends.  It's nice to have all the characters show up in each book whether it be for a family get together for fun, to offer moral support, or for strength during a tragedy.  I hope there will be many more books to come in this series.  Enjoy!

The book started off strong and drew me in with Mia and Garrett's heartbreaking tale. The  backstory is doled out slowly, keeping my interest. The story is solid, but I think the ending went on a little longer than it needed to and some elements told in retrospect might have been more powerful if they unfolded within the confines of the main story. There's a pivotal social issue that I feel the author took the easy way out on. There was an enormous opportunity to address the topic with grace and dignity, even though it could have been controversial. Still, the romance is emotional and well told, and gets a strong four stars from me. Plot The main plot is really well done. It's not groundbreaking, but J.L. Berg elicits a lot of emotion from readers with her style of storytelling. The characters are pulled together and pushed apart at optimum intervals to move the plot along at a healthy pace. And other than dragging out the ending, I think it's a really well-told tale. Characters The main characters, Mia and Garrett, are fully developed, deeply wounded, and each has a terrific arc. They both act according to character and are believable. The supporting cast is equally developed, and thus, bring more realism to the story. In many contemporary romances, sometimes the supporting cast is just sort of there and barely more than two-dimensional, but I didn't get that sense with these characters. Bottom Line Ready for You is a solid contemporary romance with a lot of adult angst that would rival any young adult novel, told well, with a satisfying ending.

Oh my poor heart! First I have to admit that JL is my writer crack.  Truly– love her female characters, strong, sassy (yay) and funny..Leah, I am looking at you!  Then there are her men….oh Logan and Declan…you had my heart…then broody, passionate, broken Garrett came along…and I may have forgotten your names!  Good thing all of you are in Ready For You to support my Garrett. This book had me all over the place- crying, laughing and deep, deeeeeep sighing.  What happens when your first love is the one?  Even when they were young Garrett and Mia were good together.  Sweet, loving and best friends.  When they are forced apart- bad choices, fear and sadness- they both just stop.  Neither are able to heal, mainly due to them both needing the other one. But the past may be too big for either of them to overcome. Having to move past all of the pain, while dealing with their current world- get your tissues ready.  The cemetery, Garrett and Clare’s dad, Aidan (grrrr) and the secrets that have become the reality of Mia’s life- just so much. The attraction is incredible, even with both of them trying to be only friends…yeah right. Both Mia and Garrett are genuine, flawed characters.  Both have made mistakes, but trying to find their way forward, hopefully together. Love that Declan is the voice of reason- after food of course! And the Finnegan family wins again- bringing Mia into the fold! This series just gets better and better.  The character development is perfect.  The writing flows and takes the reader along on an emotional journey that is honest and painful, but so damn rewarding.  Second chance at first love, reuniting with your other half,  healing and finding forgiveness.  Getting back to where you belong, after too many detours, just beautiful.

This book was wonderful! It had you from the beginning. I fell in love with Garrett. I laughed and I cried, I yelled and I screamed then I cried again. I will say have tissues ready. What you think is going to happen does not necessarily happen and the discovery and understanding and growth that happen are tremendous. I fell in love over and over with Garrett then Mia and of course everyone who makes appearances in the book from the previous books. I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait for the next one!

5 Stars!  I didn’t know how much I would enjoy this book because I’m not one to read books about lost love and then finding that love again, I don’t quite know why I do this, but I do. But I wanted to give this book a try since I’ve read books by J.L. Berg before and I really enjoyed them, so I said why the hell not. And turns out I loved the book.  Garrett and Mia were high school sweethearts, totally and irrevocably in love with each other, seeing a future with one another, but on the night of their high school graduation, Mia up and leaves and is nowhere to be found. Leaving her best friend and the love of her life scrambling to find her, but soon find that she isn’t coming home, so they are forced to move on, something Garrett didn’t want to do or even thinking about doing.  Eight years later is where the book starts, bringing Mia home after years away from her hometown, the hometown her parents don’t even live in anymore, so where is she supposed to stay, with her best friend from high school of course. And she does, but she also finds out Garrett is still living in town.  When they first see each other again, it’s as if nothing has changed between them, but truthfully everything has.  As Mia begins working at the hospital in town, she meets a friend of Garrett’s who has her own motives behind telling Mia about Garrett’s life and telling Garrett about Mia’s life. On one fateful day this friend ensures Garrett will help Mia with fixing up the new house she has just purchased, but by doing this they are living a dream they wished for from so many years again, bringing about the hurt and pain left between them. As they spend more and more time together things begin to change and they don’t know whether or not it’s for the best.  They fall into a life together, for it to all come crashing down by Mia’s recent past. The past she is running away from.  Can Mia and Garrett make it through this monumental blow to their relationship or will it all go up in flames?  If you have read books by J.L. Berg, definitely pick up this book too, but if you haven’t I demand you begin reading her novels now, you won’t regret it. This book is filled with lost love that you find again, if you’re lucky enough. It’ll leave you with a warm heart and a smile on your face.

What would it be like to return to your own roots? To a place where you had spent your wonder years, to a town that is home to unanswered questions, to a heart that, hoping it still beats for you? J.L.Berg’s third book, “Ready For You” in her Ready Series, is a manuscript of two beautiful people and their love story. Garrett and Mia, friends in high school, fall in love dreaming of a life together. But even the best-laid plans go haywire and their path of together splits into two very different directions. Fate brings them back full circle to the very place their relationship has disappeared and now it is up to them to complete that circle of life. It is time to understand and to be understood. It is time to hear the unspoken words of pain, regret and lasting love between the words of betrayal, misunderstanding and manipulation. Guilt and insecurities are a force to reckon in our lives! This is by far Jennifer’s best work as she weaves the story between Garrett and Mia. If her first two books, “When You Are Ready” and “Never Been Ready” dealt with circumstances and how her characters trusted to welcome a new life, ‘Ready For You’ is an emotional roller coaster ride as Garrett and Mia try to explore the choices made, dealing with the consequences of those choices, trying to understand the unexplained actions, reconciling with the loss of precious treasures, and Jennifer does not break for a second, for us to catch our breath between the hurt and the tears and the longing and the lust. What’s more beautiful is the foundation of friendship that eases Garrett and Mia back into a familiar relationship, giving them a chance to rekindle the trust and love one more time, and this time forever and for always. Jennifer’s done a fabulous job of choreographing their emotions through actions. As much as it hurts to look back and be scared of what the future may hold, with your best friend and the love of your life right beside each other, Garrett and Mia find their kingdom with the unconditional help and support of a loving family around them. Ready Or Not – I want more from this lady who is turning out to be one heck of a great writer.

JL Berg is some kind of word wizard. She takes the stories you think you've heard before and makes them new and exciting and emotional. Garrett and Mia and their love will take you on an emotional journey. This might be the most cry-inducing book from JL so far. Most of my notes involve me cursing her for making me cry so much. But for every tear was the most beautiful happy ending. This is a second chance romance and it's beautiful. But it's more than that. This is about a woman finding her way out of her darkness. And she can't do it for anyone but herself. And it's about a man trusting that love will be enough. I cannot recommend this enough. Get this book. Read all of JL's books. I promise you will NOT be disappointed.

As with the other Ready books by J. L. Berg I truly loved this one. The story of Garret and Mia, says that the one true love of your life can get you through any thing and get you any where. I cried and I giggled with these characters that Mrs. Berg has so brilliantly put on paper. I was so wrapped up in their lives, their pain, sorrow, love and joys. She has a way of pulling you into them and making you feel that pain and joy, you will shed a tear. Love and loss is in every day life, get this book and enjoy another wonderful story by a wonderful author who puts her very own heart into her work. Keep writing Sweetie, You have a Gift.
