“Island of the Blue Dolphins” by Scott O’Dell was first published in 1960. It is a children’s novel. The story of the novel revolves around a young girl who remains stranded on an island off the California coast for several years.
The novel is based on the true story of Juana Maria. She was a Nicoleno Native American who had spent eighteen years alone on San Nicolas Island in the 19th century.
