Ready, Set, Grow!: A What's Happening to My Body Book for Younger Girls by Lynda Madaras, Linda Davick

Ready, Set, Grow!

In her uniquely warm and funny style, Lynda wrote this entirely new book especially for younger girls to give them what they need to know to celebrate and accept the new and exciting changes that are happening to their bodies during puberty.

Illustrated with delightful drawings, Ready, Set, Grow! is the sixth book in the popular Madaras "What's Happening to My Body?" series of growing-up books for girls and boys. Praised by parents, teachers, nurses, doctors, and especially kids, the bestselling "What's Happening to My Body?" books for older girls and boys are on the "Best Books for Young Adults" list from the American Library Association, and have been translated into 12 languages. Over 2,000,000 copies of the "What's Happening to My Body?" series are in print.

I bought this book for my oldest daughter when she was 9 'she is now 12' and I feel that it helped me prepare her for this time in her life. I am purchasing another copy for my younger daughter who is now 9. I would reccommend this for girls ages 9-12 with supervision 'i.e. be prepared for Q&A'

With puberty, there is no such thing as an early bloomer! Think of it like this. Each and everyone of us are like a clock. Each clock moves at its own paste. Some clocks are faster than others and some clocks are slower than others. No matter what time rate your body or someone elses is moving, they are still experiancing puberty wether they know it or not. Just dont let the rude comments get to u theyre just jealous

In my opinion, this is not a good book for the stated 5-8 year age group. I bought this book, expecting that I could sit and read through it in one sitting with my 7 1/2 year old daughter. Looking through it, I found that it is way too long and way too detailed for this age group. I started to read parts of it with her, and she found it confusing. Then I tried explaining some of it in my own words, which is what I was trying to avoid, and at that point she got bored with it. It is far more appropriate for girls actually about to deal with these changes. This book is much too involved to read with or to a 5-8 year old. I do think, however, it would be perfect for the 9-12 year age group.

Do not let the bully be mean to u like that. Act like it does not worry like your happy just the way you are. When she makes you sad you feel defeted and she feels like she won. Just say im happy just the way i am. Be happy for how god made you. From HappySmilesGurl
