I had been planning to put my memories down on paper so that the younger generation of our family might have a glimpse into what took place in my life to mold me into who and what I am today. It was meant to be just a series of memories that reflect all the life lessons and experiences that I've lived through—a lot that were good, and some that were not. The elder members of my family have all passed away now, and it saddens me to realize how little information I had recorded of their lives.

Over lunch with my friend Carol Dallas, I spoke about my new project and shared that I had been thinking about including family recipes as well as life lessons. She pointed out that there was a book waiting to happen, and also declared that the title was obvious. And so this book was born. Along with the experiences that proved to be life lessons, are memories of wonderful people and the recipes for food that are tied to those memories. As I look back, I realize that among those memories are lessons that have shaped my life. I believe there are no accidents in life—only lessons and synchronistic events that are meant to guide us through our journey on this earth. In sorting through material for the book, it occurred to me that life lessons are food for the soul just as family recipes that are handed down are food for our bodies. They are all sources of energy to sustain us and help us grow.

My personal journey has taken on a new life all its own. As I shared my progress with friends, neighbors and even strangers along the way, I met with so much support and enthusiasm that I decided to reach out to others for their stories. What you will read is a collaborative effort from over 100 people—all with life lessons and/or recipes to share. So here it is: Recipes for Life... Food for the Body and Nourishment for the Soul. May you be uplifted, inspired, and encouraged by its contents.

Meet the Author

A native of Chicago, Cathy along with her husband, Ray, moved to the Atlanta area when she took a job with a new employer. After retiring from her career in corporate relocation, Cathy Horvath co-founded the Wedding Alliance of North Georgia. Two years later, she made the decision to pursue her dream of writing. As much as she enjoyed her career, her family and this book are her passions.
