"Kimberly Kincaid burns up the pages!" --Carly Phillips

Someone’s Bound To Get Burned…

Zoe Westin may be a fire captain’s daughter, but feeding the people in her hometown of Fairview is her number one priority. Running a soup kitchen is also the perfect way to prove to her dad that helping people doesn’t always mean risking life and limb. But when she's saddled with a gorgeous firefighter doing community service after yet another daredevil stunt, the kitchen has never been so hot.

Alex Donovan thrives on adrenaline, and stirring a pot of soup doesn’t exactly qualify. He’s not an expert at following the rules either, not even when they come from the stubborn, sexy daughter of the man who's not only his boss, but his mentor. Determined to show Zoe that not every risk ends in catastrophe, Alex challenges her both in the kitchen and out. One reckless step leads to another, but will falling for each other be a risk worth taking, or will it just get them burned?

Reckless is the first book in the Rescue Squad series by Kimberly Kincaid, and it was fantastic! Alex Donovan is a firefighter at Fairview Fire Department on Engine 8, and he is one hard working man. He is also reckless, cocky and arrogant but with a nickname like Teflon, he can usually slick talk himself out of anything. But his latest stunt has got him booted from the department and into community service for a period of four weeks, then they will talk about letting him back in. Zoe Westin just happens to be the daughter of the Captain of the fire department that Alex works at, and she also happens to be the director of the soup kitchen at Hope House, where Alex has to serve out his time. Zoe and Alex, are total opposites, she never takes risk and is organized to a tee, but you know what they say about opposites, and needless to say they are attracted to one another in a big way. But that cannot be, she is the Captains daughter and he is a firefighter. If you love romance and firefighters then this book is for you. Zoe has to teach Alex to reign in his reckless side and Alex has to teach Zoe to turn loose, all the while doing their jobs and fighting the smoking hot attraction between them. Five smoking stars for this one!!

The reason why I keep coming back for more is because Kimberly Kincaid can deliver the goods. Reckless is a story about facing the fears and obstacles that are part of life's daily agenda and overcoming them. An adrenaline junkie and a bleeding heart do-gooder are total opposites, yet that's why Zoe and Alex worked. Alex was the push Zoe needed to take risks and Zoe was the voice of reason when Alex went too far. A perfect balance. Ms. Kincaid can deliver the three H's like no other. Hope, heart and heat are a part of the formula that is Ms. Kincaid.

Opposites attract in this sizzling story about a risk-taking fireman and a cautious chef who find middle ground and learn that taking risks and following the rules may not always be a bad thing. RECKLESS is fun and sweet, and a great start to the series. Zoe Westin gave up a promising career at a high-profile restaurant to follow her dream, a decision that most consider ill-advised and one that has put her at odds with her father. With the soup kitchen running on a shoe-string budget, the last thing she needs is to babysit an arrogant firefighter who puts everything she is trying to achieve at risk with his lack of interest. Firefighter Alex Donovan is a thrill-seeker who lives full out, with no reservations and while this may work in his personal life, professionally it could tank his career. When he has a fallout with a superior officer, Alex has only one option of keeping his job: four weeks of community service at a soup kitchen. Alex plans to do only the bare minimum for the duration of his assignment, but when his disinterest puts his assignment and ultimately his career at risk, he is willing to make amends and go over and above to prove to Zoe that she can depend on him. At first glance, Alex and Zoe appear to be opposites but Zoe has a streak of daring that she has buried deep down, and Alex tempts her to loosen up and be carefree. Alex knows that Zoe is off limits to him but all that time working side by side in the kitchen only cranks up the heat between them. While they freely explore their chemistry, can their connection survive Alex's return to duty at the firehouse? How will his boss, Zoe's father react to the news of their involvement? At the beginning of this book, I didn't care much for both Alex and Zoe because I thought Alex was cocky and brash and Zoe was judgmental and difficult. It took a while for me to warm up to them, but they redeemed themselves and showed a deeper, more thoughtful side to each of them. I loved Zoe's dedication to Hope House and Alex's commitment to help her dream succeed. On a funny note, I found myself trying to find a synonym for the word 'reckless' and its variations every time I came across it:). Review Format: Galley Copy Zoe is working hard to get her soup kitchen up and running and feeding as many needy and homeless people as possible. She's short on help and though community service helpers usually do bones minimal help is help. Enter Alex, hot headed and on community service because he was a bit hot headed on a fire scene. The last place he wants to be is volunteering at a soup kitchen while he should be fighting fires. The one woman he can't touch because she's the captain's daughter, but wants to so bad turns out to be his supervisor. From page one Zoe and Alex had me wrapped right up in their reckless bubble. The attraction between the two is scorching. Alex is a great alpha male that makes sure those he works with and cares for have back up. Zoe is tenacious, fun and caring. She does what she loves even though she feels she has no support system to back her. Reckless is an addictive read with a ton of heart that will leave you ready for the next book in the story.

Reckless by Kimberly Kincaid is the first book in her Rescue series. In this story we are introduced to Alex Donovan, a firefighter at Station 8, who is an adrenaline junkie. He is known to bend the rules and act without thinking. After getting into an altercation with the chief of another station he is put on leave and must complete four weeks of community service at Hope House, a local soup kitchen. Zoe Westin is a trained chef who returned home to operate Hope House, serving well needed meals to the homeless rather than patrons at an expensive and famous restaurant. She is also the daughter of Alex’s chief and mentor at the fire station, Captain Westin. Zoe fears challenge and being recklessness, especially after her father was injured during a fire. During their time together at Hope House, Alex teaches Zoe to take a chance on life and to get her to realize how strong she truly is. Zoe gets Alex to realize that there is more to life than being a fearless firefighter. As it happens, feelings bloom between these two. It was nice to see that Alex has a tender side and that Zoe knows how to fight for what she believes. I enjoyed getting to know the firefighters at Station 8 as they joined Alex in helping Zoe apply for a grant for the soup kitchen. I hope Ms. Kincaid is planning on writing additional books in this series featuring some of these people. There are also some references of a cross over from her Pine Mountain series. I highly recommend this book to all readers. I truly enjoyed this book and had trouble putting it down.

Fun and sexy, I was hooked from beginning to end! Alex and Zoe are opposites when it comes to taking risks and living life to its fullest. She sees as Alex as reckless, but she learns that he has a very good reason for living the way he does. The only thing she can't get over is the risk he takes every time he's at work as a firefighter. Zoe is all about making plans and being careful. Alex helps her break free of her mold a bit and shows her that being reckless every once in a while is actually a good thing. They had really good chemistry and you could see the feelings growing as they found their way as a couple. The firehouse crew were great supporting characters and I'm sure will have equally good stories. Another great read from Kimberly Kincaid! 4.5 stars! I received an ARC via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.

Taking risks is not how Zoe lived her life. She makes plans, she has a list and she goes about going according to what the plans and list are. Having Alex Donovan as a volunteer wouldn't have fit into her plan under any circumstances but she was in dire need of assistance that Zoe couldn't say no but not without giving him a final warning. Alex lives in adrenaline, taking risks and in the spur of the moment. Doing community service in a soup kitchen with all those rules and regulations doesn't suit his style but for the sake of his fire fighting career, he had no choice. As the saying goes, Opposites attract. Zoe and Alex were soon fighting off their attraction as they continued working hand in hand to manage the soup kitchen. I enjoyed that there was development in their attraction. The build up was well thought through. I enjoyed their banter so much I couldn't stop smiling. I liked how they complemented each other and the way they made each other grow as a person. The drama wasn't overly done and besides Alex and Zoe's relationship, I appreciated the closure between Zoe and her father. Definitely a great start to a new series and I can't wait to read more. A great series start! Reckless is a lovers with a past story--kind of--Zoe's known Alex for ages as a member of her father's fire station, and she's had a crush on him almost as long; before going off to college several years ago, she shored up with some liquid courage at a barbecue and tried to convince Alex to kiss her. He said no--she's the captain's daughter--and she's figured ever since that he wasn't interested and tried to put him out of her mind. Then he gets assigned to her soup kitchen for his community service...and, well, you see where this is going. I really liked Alex and Zoe together--they have real chemistry, and Alex did a great job of opening Zoe up to taking risks with her life. What she didn't realize, however, is that she already was a risk taker--what other kind of person would leave a prestigious position at a fancy restaurant in D.C. to start a soup kitchen in her hometown practically on a shoestring budget? She also equated Alex with reckless risk-taking, when for the most part (initial firefighting scene that got him the community service aside) he took far more precautions than she gave him credit for. Having lost his parents early on, his big focus was living life to the fullest, something he tried to get Zoe to embrace. Reckless lost at least a part of a star toward the end, when Zoe went a bit off the rails--up until that point, it was going to get at least a four and a half. It also seemed a bit unrealistic that Zoe would have met with her dad weekly for breakfast but never once discussed exactly how he felt about her taking the new job until the end of the book. Fortunately, Zoe finally has the needed conversation with her dad, and he helps her to get her head out of her butt so she can go get her HEA. Reckless introduces a whole cast of characters at Station Eight; I can't wait to see them all in future books! Rating: 4 stars / A- I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

✦Blog Tour, Review & Giveaway: Reckless (The Rescue Squad) by Kimberly Kincaid Publication Date: January 26, 2016 Reviewed by: Reading in Pajamas Donna Rated 4 Stars REVIEW: I loved the angle of this story and how it all wound together to show that we all take risks, even if we don’t see it ourselves. Besides, who wouldn’t love those risks surrounded by hot firemen! It took a little while to warm up to Alex but boy when I did it was all the way, I just didn’t connect with Zoe though and I really wanted to. But thankfully the steamy romance between the two was hot enough to overcome that. I’m really enjoying the Rescue Squad Series and how Ms. Kincaid lets each squad member’s personality through while making them a cohesive group. It was sexy, funny and touching, I cannot wait to visit with them again! *Review copy provided by Kensington in exchange for an honest review.

Reckless is book #1 in Kimberly Kincaid's new Rescue Squad series. If this book is any indication of how this series will be then it will be a must on everyone's TBR list! Alex Donovan is one of the best firefighters at Engine 8, the only problem is he has a tendency to act first and think later. For what he has in bravery he has an equal measure of recklessness. When Alex loses his cool during a warehouse fire and has a run in with another Engine's chief he finds himself in the hot seat. With a history of reckless behavior and a record to show it, his captain puts him on leave with the condition that he must complete 4 weeks community service or lose his job. Alex wasn't thrilled to say the least. It wasn't that he was against community service, he just can't fathom the idea of being away from the job for 4 weeks. Firefighting is all he knows, he lives and breathes his job, that is until Zoe Westin came back into his life. Zoe Westin has left a career as a promising job as a chef to return home and run the local soup kitchen. While others don't understand her leaving a promising career to run a soup kitchen, Zoe is thrilled. With only a miniscule budget to work with, Zoe must rely on community service to run the center. But when her latest worker ends up being none other than Alex Donovan Zoe knows she is in trouble. Alex couldn't believe it when he discovered Zoe Westin, his captain's only daughter, would be his boss for the next 4 weeks. Zoe has the same work ethic and determination as her father which soon has Alex respecting her even more than he already did. Where Alex is spontaneous and reckless, Zoe is follow the rules with no expectations, so when these two finally come together something is bound to combust. I really enjoyed the chemistry between these two. I couldn't help but fall in love with these two. Zoe is so sweet and lovable and Alex, while reckless, has a huge heart and is always willing to lend a helping hand. I received an eARC of this book from the publisher for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.

Kimberly Kincaid starts a new series with Reckless that features hot firefighters and strong women. Alex Donovan was born to be a firefighter and isn't afraid to put his life on the line. Unfortunately, he doesn't always follow orders and as a result is assigned community service. He reports to Zoe Westin's soup kitchen for his month of service and is instantly reminded of his attraction to his captain's daughter. Zoe grew up around firefighters and doesn't let Alex get away with anything. Their chemistry evolves into a beautiful friendship and relationship. Will Zoe be able to hand Alex's dangerous profession and will Alex save his job? Great start to a fun series. It was both sexy and realistic. I have loved books written by this author and look forward to finishing this new series. I was given a free copy for an honest review.

I thought this was a great start to this new firefighter series. The characters were really fun and engaging. Alex comes across right away as somewhat arrogant and entitled, but it soon becomes apparent that there are reasons for his attitude, and that his life as a firefighter is really important to him. The guys at the firehouse are his family, and over the course of the story he comes to realize how his sometimes reckless actions affect his friends and co-workers. He becomes aware of the secondary consequences, and I really appreciated how his character changed for the better over the course of the story. He's a playboy, a charming guy, a friend to all and a good lover to boot, but some of that is just a facade for the loneliness he feels from the loss of his parents as a teenager and his desire to fit in. Meeting the people who frequent Zoe's homeless shelter, he comes to appreciate the life he has and the chances he's been given. Zoe is a wonderful woman, full of a zest for life, but one that is carefully planned and organized. She gave up a promising career as a chef for a high end restaurant to do what she loves - to take care of people who need her. She feels that her parents are disappointed with her choices, and it's a constant source of conflict between her and her father. When she has to take Alex under her wing, so to speak, as his community service hours are assigned to her shelter, the last thing she wants is to have to babysit another of her dad's guys. But while at first Alex reacts the way she figured he would, he gradually comes to understand and appreciate what she is doing with her life, and makes a concerted effort to help her. In return, she relaxes her guard around him, and admits that sometimes she tries too hard, and could use a little fun in her life. They make some bets that result in them spending time together outside of work, and it leads to some some fun and sexy scenes between them as they let their attraction override their misgivings about getting involved. There's a bit of the classic ' I can't date you, you're the boss's daughter!' trope, and the reaction of Zoe's father when he finds out is pretty predictable as a result, but it wasn't too over the top. The fire scenes are riveting, action packed and exciting. The camaraderie between the guys at the fire hall gives some classic bromance scenes (always a favourite of mine) and paves the way for future stories in the series. Zoe's hesitation to get involved in a real relationship with Alex isn't helped by his return to his firefighting duties and the dangers he encounters. But ultimately she has to choose between a life with Alex, trusting that he'll do his best to come home safely every night, or a life alone. Overall, it was a very entertaining story, with a wonderful happy ending and I'm excited to read more in the series! 4.5 stars.

I can honestly say that I was very much looking forward to this new series by Ms. Kincaid. I have become a fan over the last year of her stuff, so I was happy as a clam when I saw RECKLESS. And I was not disappointed in what I read! Let's start off with my boy, Alex. The reckless firefighter finds himself in some hot water when he disobeys more than one direct order from his superiors. As the wife of a detective, myself, I know that there are reasons these orders are made and why you shouldn't disregard them. So, he is offered to work off his punishment in community service, and if he completes it without any issues, it heightens his chance of not being fired. This is not an option for Alex since this is the only thing he wants to do with his life. He lives for the job. What I found refreshing about Alex is even though, yes, he is good at taking all kinds of risks, he generally does so in a general realm of safety. He is into extreme sports, but they have safety precautions that he follows. So he's not completely crazy in that area. And, he uses his gut to tell him what risks to take in his firefighting life. Sometimes that world is not cut and dryed. I liked that he knew what needed to be done and wasn't afraid to go for it. Of course, he could have gone about it a completely different way than he did, but I felt like he was kind of justified for his why. And let's not forget what a good guy he is! And sexy as heck! I know he had me going a few times in this book. I know he did for Zoe too. ;) At first, I wasn't so sure I was going to like Zoe. She was so set in her ways and what she thought was the right behavior, it had me thinking she had this giant stick up her butt. Upon reading further, we were able to get more into her head and her thoughts and she grew on me pretty fast. I love that even though she was terrified of the challenges Alex through her way, she stepped up to metaphorical plate and got it done, and in the process, she finds that it's not all so bad. There were times throughout the book when I did want to shake her and her father, Alex's captain. Clearly they had issues they needed to work through, but they were so stubborn, neither would budge. I wanted to give them a long lecture about it. Lol. The book storyline really worked for me; the characters, conflicts, sub-characters. Everything. Kimberly Kincaid is a master at what she does. RECKLESS is a prime example of an addictive and passionate story! I can't wait to read more in this series!

Great New Series! This is a great book; this is the first book in the Rescue Squad series by Kimberly Kincaid. Zoe Westin is the fire captain’s daughter and she loves her job running a soup kitchen. Alex Donovan is a firefighter who has to do community service at the soup kitchen after another daredevil stunt he did. The more time he spends with Zoe the more the sparks fly. If you are looking for a great romance that will keep you reading way past your bedtime then you need to read this book. I can’t wait until the next book in this series comes out. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

This is the first book in her new series. I'm not going to lie I wasn't a fan of Alex in beginning. I didn't care for his attitude, but I did warm up to him rather quickly. I really loved the work Zoe does for Hope's House. When she finally tasks a risk to ask for help it was nice to see the community come together like that. Zoe isn't one for taking risks and Alex lives by that so when they are forced to spend time together for Alex's community service they are going to clash. One thing neither saw coming was maybe they had exactly the balance for each other. The spark of attraction has always been there, but working together ignites the spark into an inferno. The heat between these two does get hot! One problem can Zoe cope with Alex being a firefighter? Though Alex did rub me the wrong in the beginning he won me over by the end. Overall a really good story.

This story is on fire! Sorry the pun, but couldn't help. The connection between Zoe and Alex is smoldering, as they explore the attraction between them, while working on the kitchen. There are so many things I loved in this story. First, the characters, the similarities between chefs and firefighters was eye opening, in a way. The search for adrenaline, the self assured personality one must have to survive the environment, always ready for action, always prepared. Top of that Alex's cocky attitude, and winning smile, Zoe's stubbornness, and the sparks fly. But as they get to know each other, and the outer layers are peeled off, it's not just about attraction and heat, they found true soul mates inside, someone they can share a future with. Zoe, like all of us, seeks approval of her parents. Alex tries to keep his job, despite his impulse behavior. Zoe's father being Alex's boss, makes the fragile situation even more difficult. Working side by side in the kitchen, they share their dreams, and set goals, and challenge each other for new adventures, they would have never even thought of without each other's influence. The story just pulled me in from the start, and it was a late night, until I could pull myself away from it. The environment, the characters, the events of the story with adrenaline spikes of danger, swoon worthy moments of bursting passion, the 'I got your back' motto the firefighters, and not only saying it, but living it through in everyday life, all of it made the story engaging, captivating, and lovable. I enjoyed how the story flew off the pages, and invited me into the world the author had created, filled with dedication and devotion to the characters chosen careers and paths in life. This is the one book in the series, I can't wait to see, what more's to come, an intense start, for sure! ~ Five Spoons

When Alex is required to do community service, he doesn't expect to be assigned to a soup kitchen ran by his fire Captain's daughter, Zoe. He also doesn't expect to fall for her. (What was the Captain thinking? Didn't he see this coming?? ;)) Zoe is very serious about her work and very determined to not get involved with a firefighter. After seeing her parent's marriage fall apart because of the firehouse, she wants no parts of it! But you can't mess with chemistry. Alex teaches Zoe about taking risks and Zoe teaches Alex that there is more to life than fire fighting! Great story with awesome characters!

Zoe Westin may be a firefighter captain's daughter but she is not a risk taker. She is a chef and the co-director of Hope House and her focus is feeding the hungry. Alex Donovan is firefighter and adrenaline junkie who is being punished for a mishap at work with 4 weeks of community a soup kitchen...Zoe's soup kitchen. Zoe and Alex are both strong characters who bring out the best in each other. Zoe grounds Alex in ways he needs and Alex teaches Zoe that taking risks bring out the best in life. What follows is a beautiful love story that has me clamoring for the next book in this series! **Received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

Reckless is Book #1 in the Rescue Squad Series and boys did it kick off the series with a bang. There is nothing better than a sexy firefighter and Kimberly Kincaid delivers on all the right things. Alex is the kind of guy where he takes life by the horns and goes by the saying "Life's too short", he is an adrenaline junkie who already has a very risky job as a firefighter. Zoe is the complete opposite of Alex, she doesn't like taking risks she follows all the rules and is very straight laced, but when herself and Alex are suddenly thrown together as Alex has to do 4weeks community service and it so happens he ends up in her soup kitchen, now that's when the sparks start to fly. For Alex Zoe is like the forbidden fruit as she is his Captain's daughter, and no matter what the captains daughter is always always off limits!! Zoe doesn't like the way Alex is a bit Reckless, Alex doesn't like the way Zoe sticks to all the rules. With all the time they are spending together we see a softer side to Alex and a little of Zoe's take a risk side. This was an awesome read, it had plenty to give and the way it was written makes you want more from this series, there's plenty of humour, smokin' HOT scenes and you will want to keep reading till the very end!!!

Reckless by Kimberly Kincaid is getting my 2016 reading year off to a good start. Who wouldn't want a hot fireman and a strong beautiful woman to heat things upon a cold snowy day. Kimberly know how to write a story with chemistry, hot sex, love, family, some crime and fires and you can't turn the pages fast enough. I absolutely love her writing style and I know it is always going to be a great book, thank you Kimberly. This is a great start to a new series, I can't wait for the second book. NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 I was happy to learn the Ms. Kincaid was going to have a new series. Then add in that this new series is about Firefighters is an added bonus. In Reckless we follow Alex Donovan and his fire station. Alex is the adventure seeking, adrenaline junkie and all around reckless guy. But while Alex maybe be a thrill seeker he loves being a firefighter and he is great at his job. Being a firefighter is everything eo Alex so when a rash decision takes away his job, he is willing to do anything to get back in the good graces of his chief. Zoe Westin is on a mission to provide for people. She wants to use her skills in the kitchen to give back to her community. But she is not able to do it on her own. Insert on very unhappy firefighter who has to work and prove that his can follow direction even if he only is doing it to get back to the fire house. I enjoyed this story. But there was just something missing for me. I think that the first half of the book was a tad bit slow. But as the story went on I enjoyed it more and more. I did really like Alex and Zoe. I am looking forward to what is next in the Rescue Squad series. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley & Kensington Books- Zebra in exchange for an honest review. Alex Donovan is well aware that people think he is reckless, but he just doesn't see it that way, he knows how precious life is, and he doesn't see the point in always walking on the safe side of the line. He would rather put everything he has into things and leave nothing up to chance, and know he did everything he could to get the job done. But sometimes his no nonsense approach to things lands him in trouble, and this time he's found himself in deep, and no amount of persuasion or charm is going to help him in out of it. After he disregards orders and puts his life in danger on the job, he finds himself suspended and ordered to perform a month of community service at a local soup kitchen. He isn't real thrilled about working at the soup kitchen, but once he meets the soup kitchens new director he starts singing a different tune. Walking into that kitchen and seeing Zoe Westin standing there knocks his world off it's axis, has him thankful for small favors... she is gorgeous, tempting as hell, and he would love nothing more than to lure her into his bed... problem is that she is the captains daughter and that makes her off limits!! Zoe Westin gave up the glitz and glamour of working in one of the D.C's hottest kitchens, for something a little more fulfilling, and something she could truly be proud of, and moved home to open a soup kitchen. While she is quite certain she is disappointing her parents for giving up on a dream job, she feels like her new endeavor is a lot closer to her dream job, and hopes that with time they will see she is doing the right thing. When her father notifies her that he is sending one of his firemen her way to serve a months of community service she is thankful for the help, but has her reservations, and is quite certain that her father has ulterior motives. When Alex Donovan waltzes into her kitchen and is ready to get started on serving his time she is ready to send him packing, seeing him again brings up bad memories, and a deep seated temptation that she knows will be almost impossible to resist. I have been looking forward to reading this book for some time now, and have been anxiously awaiting for the opportunity to meet Alex and I have to say he was totally worth the wait!! Barely two chapters into the story and I felt myself being completely won over by his alluring charm, enticing one liners, and domineering personality. Ms. Kincaid definitely outdid herself with character development with this one, Zoe and Alex were a match made in literary heaven!! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I spent reading this story, and I look forward to future visits to the Rescue Squad series!! Definitely one of my favorites from Ms. Kincaid to date!! Highly recommend you give this read a try, it is destined to steal your heart and have you wishing for a firefighter of your very own!! A great book about not letting life pass you by without enjoying every minute of it! Firefighter Alex Donovan has pushed the limits one too many times, and he's been removed from active duty and is being made to perform community service before he gets a meeting to see if he can keep his job. The director of the soup kitchen he has been placed at, Zoe Westin, just happens to be the fire captain's daughter, and she's not happy that she's been saddled with a helper that doesn't take anything seriously. Reckless by Kimberly Kincaid is the love story between chef Zoe Westin, the director of the local soup kitchen, and Alex Donovan, a firefighter that tends to be reckless in his decision-making. Zoe and Alex have known each other for years, because Zoe is also the daughter of the fire department's captain. Alex's refusal to follow orders during a chemical fire earned him four weeks of unpaid leave and four weeks of community service. He is assigned to work for Zoe and right off the bat he is uncooperative. Luckily, Alex realizes that Zoe is basically in charge of his future, so he decides to put his best foot forward. As they work together and get to know each other, they fall in love. I enjoyed this story, however I found the pace to be on the slow-side. Additionally, Zoe and Alex's romance took a long time to develop and evolve. However, they are great characters and I liked how they continually challenged each other.
