About the Author

Serena Theresa Wills is a native New Yorker and currently resides in the Washington, DC area. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Policy Studies from Syracuse University and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Virginia Tech.

During her literary journey Serena moved to Dallas, Texas for three and half years, where she focused on honing her craft and became published. She completed several manuscripts and children's stories, one of which will be published in spring 2012 titled, "Pieces of Life, Reconstruction, Volume 1" her first poetry book. Her publication credentials include being a contributing author in Gumbo for the Soul, Here's Our Child Where's the Village and Gumbo for the Soul, "Women of Honor-Special Pink Edition edited by Beverly Black-Johnson, Have a Little Faith and Keeping the Faith edited by Vanessa Miller and How I Freed My Soul, Liberated Muse, Volume 1. She will be published in the upcoming anthologies titled, Betrayal Wears a Pretty Face, Liberated Muse, Volume 2 edited by Khadijah Ali-Coleman and Cornbread, Fish and Collard Greens edited by Khafre Abif.

Serena also has an extensive background in the nonprofit field concentrating on youth development, literacy and arts education. Serena uses her writing and spoken word art to provide workshops to school age children to help them with writing, communication skills and public speaking.

Serena is a mother to her beautiful son, has worked in the nonprofit field for seventeen years and spends her spare time being an advocate for Lyme Disease and Ovarian Cancer, enjoying family, traveling, running, African dance and serves her community through the sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
