Description: This reference provides pricing information (average wholesale price and discounted price) for prescription and over-the-counter medications. Other pharmacy related items include information on home diagnostic kits, medication lists, conversion tables, and drug photographs. Monthly supplements are available, and it is published yearly. This 2000 version is the 104th edition.
Purpose: The primary purpose is to provide pricing information on both prescription and over-the-counter medications. It also includes other pertinent pharmacy related information such as herbal and vitamin listings, poison center and pharmaceutical manufacturer phone numbers, and laboratory reference ranges.
Audience: This book is targeted toward hospital and retail pharmacists. However, almost any agency or individual involved in the legal purchasing and/or selling of medications would find this reference beneficial.
Features: It includes ten different sections. The first section provides information for drug information and poison centers. Section two provides various lists of drug related items. These include alcohol-free products, sugar-free products, drug-food interactions, and a pharmacy calculations table. Section three lists disease management programs. Section four lists pharmacy organizations, and section five discusses basic drug reimbursement information for each state. Wholesaler/manufacturer information and a color photo drug identification listing are contained in sections six and seven, respectively. Sections eight and nine contain pricing information for both prescription and over-the-counter medications and products. Section ten concludes with information on alternative/herbal medications. This reference includes monthly updates. New features to the 104th edition include the practice management and professional development section. It contains information on disease state management programs, nontraditional pharmacy degree programs, buying and selling of pharmacies, and dosing instructions for Spanish speaking patients.
Assessment: This is an extremely useful reference for any agency or individual requiring pricing information. It also provides miscellaneous pharmacy related information that can be easily located in this single reference.
