Red Velvet Car

Some classic rock reunions are driven by marketing, some driven by a desperate need to reconnect to the past, some exist merely for the music. Red Velvet Car, Heart's first album since 2004's Jupiter's Darling, belongs to the latter camp: it's music with no seeming commercial aspirations, music that is connected to the past but doesn't strive to replicate it. Heart eschews their teased, corseted '80s bombast and sticks to the Zep worship of the '70s, an obsession that's proved quite fertile. The Wilson sisters are clearly older than they were when they belted out "Barracuda" -- the tempos are generally slower, Ann's voice doesn't reach the same heights -- but they embrace their age, a move that gives their excursions into folk including a revival "Sand" from their 1990 Lovemongers sideproject, a record that pointed the way toward the textured movie here. Red Velvet Car has something of a meditative mood -- the punchy Townshend power chords are used as color, not fuel -- triggered somewhat by a preponderance of textured, acoustic-laden arrangements and miniature epics, all elements that hearken back to Heart's golden age yet wind up feeling right in line with their vibe in 2010.

There were two reasons I bought this Cd. One was price. Music today is such a vast wasteland of sounds. So, for $7.99, I figured it was worth a chance to listen to a very good band actually make a very good CD. It was very listenable & enjoyable considering the history of Heart. It's good Heart music. This is right where they would've been after Dog & Butterfly. With any singer in their late fifties, I'm not surprised at Ann Wilson's lack of hitting the high notes. There's no power of her voice that once was. And, the songs, I wish could've been a little longer. This is a good choice of musicians on this cd, and I wish the Wilson's had let us hear more of them. Anyone who likes Heart would really like this CD. There are a couple of good rockers along with some slow songs, but the desire to create good music is felt & I'm glad to have it. How many bands from the seventies could stand beside every LP they made and still continue to record? I had the pleasure to see Heart way back when; this CD takes me back to then.

RVC by the First Sisters of Rock and thier band, Heart have outdone themselves once again. This CD has something for everyone and will make you a fan all over again, or a new one if you've never really listened to them. I'm not even sure which song is the best, but if I had to choose, it would narrowed down to 4, Hey You, WTC, Red Velvet Car and Sand. Get you copy now, and enjoy, it will the best thing you buy for yourself or someone else this year! Summer Fowler

I just recently saw Heart in concert( for the 7th time ) and they are just as amazing 34 yrs after their debut record. Ann Wilson's voice is still a powerhouse. No one can match her. I highly recommend this cd .
