Redemption (The Rending, #1) by Cara Carnes

There’s no soft in war…

Mira survived years in a secret prison, one she must return to and somehow rescue the people she left behind. The so-called peace treaty between the Paraspecies and humanity is fracturing, but she must seek help from the Alpha wolf she left behind. But how can she prove an imprisonment she barely believes herself?

He’ll risk anything for another chance…

The Impure female from his past returns with a tale too gruesome to be false. The human government has imprisoned the genetically tainted humans they ostracized. Adrik wants to help, but the pack and Redemption are in turmoil. Dare he risk them all for one woman?

Author’s Note: This work was previously titled Hell’s Playground and appeared in the Under a Wolf Moon anthology. This version has been expanded, retitled and reedited.

Redemption is book 1 of The Rending Book series by Cara Carnes. It tells the story of Adrik a wolf shifter and Mira an Impure. Adrik is an Alpha to 3 packs planned to take Mira a genetically impure human labeled an Impure for a mate. Then Mira was captured and thought dead. However two years later she turns up in Redemption asking for his help to save the other Para species that are still captives of humanity’s government called the NAH. I found this book to be interesting, action packed, well written. I loved all the different Para species - shifters, dragons, gryphons, mage's, a demon and more. The characters are well developed, strong and believable. The plot moves at a good steady pace that keeps your eager to keep reading to find out what it going to happen next. I recommend this book and series to all who like me love paranormal shifter books. * I was given a gift copy * L.

Book exchanged for an honest review~ Mira has wanted Adrik for as long as she remembers but feels invisible because she's considered Impure. Mira is a runner that moves between Redemption and The Alliance. Suddenly Mira disappears without a trace and remains gone for two whole years. Now Mira is back and turning Adrik's world upside down. Adrik is of two minds that he wants to put Mira into a protective cocoon and fears that she betrayed them. All Mira wants is for Adrik to believe her yet nothing is turning out as planned. Deimos kept Mira sane through all she experienced. Mira will do anything to protect Deimos even if it means keeping secrets from Adrik. Who is Deimos? Can Mira trust Adrik again? Will Adrik believe Mira? Find out in Redemption. This new to me author really created a marvelous world and characters. Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. A real page turner from first page to last page. The characters and story were real, honest, raw, flawed, down to earth, surprising, and compelling. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Redemption is the first book in the Rending series by Cara Carnes. This was a fantastic book that kept me riveted from the beginning all the way to the end. There are so many twists and surprises you never know where the book is going to take you. I love how it was just non stop with never too much space between things that you get bored. This is much more that just a love story, this is an entire new world with Dragons, Gryphons, Succubae, Mage, shifters, humans and the in-betweens (called Impures) life you have never read before. The main characters, Mira and Adrik, are amazing and I just fell in love with them, but all of the characters are written very well. With the authors awesome imagination I just cant wait for the next book in this series to come out, im sure it will be just as good as this one. This is a Danielle's Domain book review.

Step into a new world where science and the paranormal collide Redemption is a tale set in an alternative future where dragons, gryphons, succubae, mage & wolf shifters live in a segregated world alongside humans both pure and impure. The battle lines were drawn years ago when the world experienced The Rending. The NAH, North American Humanitarians and the Succubi rose up to attack the other Paraspecies. After an almost complete annihilation of the golden dragon monarchy most of the Paraspecies have experienced years of capture, torture and war. Now treaties exist. Everyone has retreated to their corners. The Impure are persecuted by the NAH and hunted by the Succubi. Alliances are formed and the city of Redemption provides shelter, supplies and much needed medical attention for the Impure. Mira is one of the Impure. Sister to one of the Alliance leaders she has been somewhat sheltered. She is distrustful of the Paraspecies and this is abundantly clear in her first meeting with Adrik, pack alpha of Redemption. It’s also very clear that her body hasn’t gotten the message because the chemistry between the two sky rockets from the beginning. As the Alliance joins forces with the packs of Redemption Mira forces her way into becoming a runner for the Alliance. It’s pretty obvious that feelings run deep between Mira and Adrik when all of the sudden Mira disappears. Held prisoner for two years in a secret NAH compound she has undergone brutal torture. With the help of another prisoner she’s managed to keep her sanity if a bit fractured. So when she is freed she runs to the only safety she knows, Adrik. Her only goal is to help free her savior and the other Impures imprisoned. Adrik is a leader among wolves, quadrant alpha and leader of Redemption. He’s smart, protective and revered by his pack. All that aside he’s suffered greatly at the loss of Mira. Believing her dead after tearing his world apart for over a year he’s quite shocked and disbelieving when she drags herself in to Redemption claiming she’s been imprisoned for the past couple years. But her scars tell a tale of their own. Having her back in his arms he knows one thing, no one will ever hurt her again. Rescue and vengeance missions collide. Jealousy over this mysterious savior prevails and secrets are revealed. While Adrik is the alpha haven she needs him to be in the end Mira proves to be a strong resilient survivor that’s more than fit to rule at his side. Redemption is a great read. It has wonderful world building and I’m looking forward to exploring more as the series develops further. I’d highly recommend it for those into an adventurous tale of love in a post-apocalyptic world of the paranormal. I received this book via Candid Book Reviews in exchange for an honest review.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this series. I actually started with the second book in the series 'Redemption's Forgiveness' in the recently released 'Romancing the Wolf' anthology. I loved it so much I couldn't wait to read this one. I was not disappointed. This story follows the Alpha Wolf Adric and his Impure human love Mira. It is such a detailed and complex story and is really difficult to explain in a few sentences. You just have to open the book and immerse yourself in the telling of such a wonderful, magical story. This is a tale of love, betrayal, hopelessness, deep suffering, torture and perseverance. It sounds dark and bleak but it is really so much more than that. It is a fantasy in an alternate universe with shapeshifters such as dragons and wolves, mages, succubae, humans and a great romance thrown in. Mira has spent two years being horrifically tortured at the hands of other humans. When she is finally released she immediately heads back to Redemption, the town where Adric, the wolf shifter she had been falling in love with before being captured, resides. She needs his help to rescue all the other people in the facility where she was held (and one mysterious man in particular). There is quite a bit of tension when she returns because there has been a war going on for decades between the Paraspecies and the humans and someone made it look like she betrayed them and cost the lives of so many people. There are definitely many unanswered questions that will hopefully be answered as the series progresses. So very many characters are introduced and I cannot wait for their books. I really think/hope the half succubae, half mage Camryn and Deimos/mystery man that cannot be named without a spoilers alert, need their own book as a couple. I so want to know Camryn's story! I actually got into this book much quicker then the other one. I don't know if it was because she wrote things a little smoother or just because I already knew so much of the complex back story that it was easier to immerse myself this time around. Either way it was a great story! The sex scenes were very explicit so be warned. This book does not read like a Harlequin so stay away if your sensibilities are easily offended. This is not a light and fluffy romance. There is so much world building of such a rich and fully realized world that it takes my breath away. So if you are ready to enter this complex world that the author has created, please do because I don't think you will regret it.
