It must only happen to those whose lives were worthy.
Clearly, mine was not.
The only thing that happened to me was a repeat of what I thought was my death.
The blast of the gun as it went off.
The loss of my breath as two hundred pounds of dead weight dropped on top of me.
And then darkness.
This replayed over and over.
When the guy squatted down next to me and asked if I was hurt, the only thing I could see, feel,
hear, were those few seconds.
Even now, as I sat in the back of a blacked out van-it was the only thing that ran through my mind.
Gunshot, breath, darkness.

please put on nook!!!!
I don’t how Ms. McLean continues to shock me, but SHE DOES! Redemptive is book two in the “Combative series”. It does not start off where “Combative” left off, but dives right into a story so captivating that you can’t help but be pulled into the dark world of Bailey (aka Madison from Book one) and Nate DeLuca. We get so much of who Bailey is and why there were so many secrets in Combative. Again with the emotional battles! My heartstrings were tugged and probably a couple snapped as I felt the inner turmoil of these two very broken characters. It was nothing like what I expected, but I loved every minute of reading it. I am still in a bit of shock over it actually. We get more answers, but a whole slew of new questions and I want to know how this trilogy will end. This very in depth exploration of Bailey and Nate was powerful and I found myself unable to stop reading. It felt like Ms. McLean took her two hands and wrapped them around my heart and squeezed. She made me love every puzzle piece that was Nate DeLuca. I watched as two characters learned, in a unconventional way, to survive, heal, and love. YES, LOVE! I swear it. I know I sound like a broken record, but this book was just not at all what I thought it would be. It was so much more! I love the unique way Ms. McLean explored Bailey and Nate. Two unlikely characters that find each other in a very dire situation, and struggled against all odds to just live. I identified with each of their spirits. I cannot wait for book three. If “Combative” and now “Redemptive” were any indication then I am going to need to prepare to have my mind shattered because I am so blown away by the AMAZINESS of this story and characters. A definite must read!!
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Bailey is lost. She's been living on the streets for so long and all she wants is to have a place to be out of the rain . Little does she know that her decision to enter the diner sets her on a path she could have never imagined. Nate DeLuca is his own man. He's part of a family that his father and uncle started years before. He has taken over his father's position within the family. His life was truly never fulfilled until that one fateful night and now he can't imagine a life without her in it. This is the 2nd book in the series. I never imagined when I started this book that I would like Nate as much as I did since I didn't like him much in the previous book. I was excited to get this book as I was left with so many questions about Bailey from the previous book. I am more anxious than ever to read the next one. This book moves rather quickly and I found it difficult to put down.
I wish it was possible to give a book more than 5 stars because Redemptive absolutely deserves it. This book is not a standalone; you need to read Combative first. After the cliffhanger ending of Combative, I really thought some of those questions would be answered. Sadly, most were not but the feeling that there is something is completely off about Madison is absolutely explained. Redemptive is a look at Bailey/Madison's life before she meets Ky. At first, I thought, when are we going to learn about what happened to Ky???? By Chapter 3, it was like, wait Ky who? Redemptive has completely changed my outlook on the characters introduced in Combative but I am glad to find out Bailey's story after Madison's. Something about the flashback just makes total sense. If you knew the backstory first then I feel like Combative just wouldn't have been as powerful. This book ends on a cliffhanger and has serious potential to give you a huge book hangover! Combative and Redemptive were my first books by this author but she writes stories that stay with you long after you read the last page which makes me want to read everything she has published. I'll be impatiently waiting for Book 3 in this series!!!! * I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
