Reflect Shuns In A Broken Mirror

Reflect Shuns In A Broken Mirror

by Bradley L. Bodeker

Within the shards of the broken mirror we all share when we examine everything that's happened within our lives, what is reflected back? Does our image teach us anything? Does it open our eyes? Or does it shun us for our failures? Within is a gathering of images reflected back from my own mirror. What life has taught me about love, life, religion, parenting, teenage angst and young adult lust. It's not your typical poetry. Some call it a combination of poetry and prose and label it "proetry." It's not nice. There are no rainbows or unicorns found here. The words within bite. Sometimes they draw blood, sometimes they draw tears, rarely do they bring smiles. So step back, take a gaze, and tell me what you see.

"the note...
found it
written in small
insecure desperate scrawl
the rantings
of another lost soul
crying out to be heard
from the bottom of a trash can
lists of woes
hurts and haunts
steps on taking that final leap
from a cliff's edge
or a small stool
the swallowing of a multitude
of pharmaceutical bliss
this author
wanted out in the worst way
i only wish i could reach him
touch them
inspire a bit of hope
but i read the author's name
and it was me"
