Many people intend to, "leave footprints in the sands of time," to enable those who follow to have some idea from whence they came. But then time passes, and oftentimes this kind of extended journal remains unwritten. I wanted my children, and my children's children, to follow the unexpected twists and turns my life has taken, starting with my very provincial and conservative rural background. I wanted to share some of the turning points, often lonely and frightening, that resulted in what seemed like cataclysmic changes in my world-view. Leta, my wife of 62 years, was my major anchor. She had a powerful impact on my life as I chose a most unpredictable path leading to a journey I could have never anticipated.

Eugene Friesen, the author of this fascinating autobiography, tells the story of his life in a manner which reads like an adventure. From humble beginnings he rose to accomplishments that are almost astonishing in their variety, leaving the reader to wonder how one man could have done so much in only a single lifetime. His story details how he became a paratrooper who rose to the rank of full colonel, a pilot, a jungle explorer, a discoverer of lost tribes, a full professor at a major university, a world traveler, a practicing psychologist, a pastor, a singer, and how he won two earned university doctorates along the way. Reading this fascinating story is time well spent. Highly recommended.
