Couples getting back together stories are not normally my favorite but this one is a wonderful addition to this series and is making me rethink my avoidance of the theme. I would have really missed out. The details about the storm and how it affects the community, a wounded cop hero, and the "why bad things happen to good people" theme made it my favorite in this series so far. Rekindled Hearts by Brenda Minton, the next book in the After the Storm Continuity is also a good stand alone. Definitely pick it up...and if you haven't read the series them all.

Colt and Lexi were married, but divorced two years ago. After a tornado hits their Kansas town, they try to become friends. Both of them miss each other, but won't admit it. In the end, they do. this is an enjoyable read for the first few chapters, but then it gets to be repeatitious. About half of the book discusses the same old emotions, while other parts of the plot are glossed over. When the author has the opportunity to make an exciting scene; a felon escapes prison, she concludes that he was captured in two paragraphs while the rest of the chapter dwells on missing his wife and feeling guilty. Other elements are not forshadowed, just tossed into the pot at a convenient moment so that another plot element can be solved in a paragraph or less. Other problems; a lost dog, a found child without parents, Lexi's problem with her parents, are not solved. It would have been better if these last loose strings had been tied up, the exciting moments had been described in more detail, and the author had used the "show, don't tell" technique. A better read, that is also about saving a marriage, is Stars Shine After Dark. A revised and expanded version is now available at, or the original paperback is available here.
