Merser has a great title for her collection of easy menus for friends and family, and it fits perfectly her approach to entertaining and preference for casual but good meals. There are 30 menus, most with three recipes, and each is accompanied by "add-a-course-notes" to make the dinner more special. Most recipes are uncomplicated, although a few ingredients are not in every supermarket, and they are varied enough to appeal to cooks bored with their standard company repertoire. The recipes are written in a conversational tone; Merser takes an "antifear" approach to cooking and new ingredients. A few of her cooking tips don't make the best culinary sense, but her book is fun and approachable. For most collections.
