The Remains of the Dead (Ghost Dusters Mystery Series #1) by Wendy Roberts

Sadie Novak’s got the kind of job that kills cocktail chatter dead: she owns Scene-2-Clean, a crime scene cleanup company. As if cleaning up after grusome murders weren't creepy enough, she can also see and talk to the ghosts of the victims.
When grieving relatives hire Sadie and her employee, ex-cop Zack Bowman, to clean up after the murder-suicide of Trudy and Grant Toth, Sadie figures she’s bound to meet at least one chatty ghost. But Kent, the man Sadie first encounters at the scene, is very much alive—so much so, that Sadie soon finds herself agreeing to a date with him.
Then a real ghost shows up—the oddly silent spirit of Trudy, who seems determined to prove her husband’s innocence, and inspires Sadie to track down the real killer. But as she scours the crime scene, Sadie quickly realizes she's in way over her head, that Kent has a strange connection to the dead couple, and that someone wants her to give up the ghost…for good.

Enjoyable characters with a touch of mystery and ghost busting.

weird in its own way. A main character that has devoted her own home business to cleaning up crimes scenes. Crime scenes that specifically focus on suicides and murders. But if that is not odd enough, the main character "Sadie" can communicate with those departed "ghosts" that have been murdered and help them along to a more restful place. But Sadie can't see those that commit suicide...but why? So Sadie becomes involved in the mystery within each of her crime scenes. It makes for an interesting yet a different type of mystery story. It seemed gross at times while you read but it was also sad. I would recommend this book! It was different and well written.

The characters are dysfunctional and yet connecting. The premise is original and well thought out. I read it so fast i had to order the second book because it was such a fun read.

When her brother committed suicide five years ago, Sadie Novak was the one who cleaned out his house in order to spare her parents the pain. Immediately afterward, she quit her teaching position to open up Scene-2-Clean, a firm that performs crime scene cleanups in the Seattle area. She gains immense satisfaction from her work because she saves the victim¿s family from the trauma of performing the difficult deed, which can include blood splattered seemingly everywhere. Sadie also has another ability that gives her in some ways even greater satisfaction. She meets the ghosts who were killed in the house and helps them pass on.---------------- Her current assignment is the Toth residence where a murder suicide occurred. There she meets Kent Lasko who she assumes is a ghost. Instead she learns he was a friend of the couple and then she wants to know why he was in the house. He explains that he came to retrieve a piece of jewelry that belonged to his mother that he gave to the victim he also says he was having an affair with Trudy Toth. Not long afterward, Grant Toth¿s mother claims a piece of jewelry is missing and the police find it on Sadie. She believes Kent planted it and this makes her wonder why as she postulates whether he was involved in the two deaths. She begins an investigation that leads to her being shot at twice which makes her dig all the deeper.--------------------- This is a breezy paranormal mystery filled with witty at times graveyard dry dialog inside a fascinating yet foreboding plot. Sadie is an amateur sleuth who never quits whether it is cleaning a place or investigating a crime. Her associate Zack Bowman is a disgraced ex-cop although they have never kissed there is a strong attraction between them. The whodunit is cleverly executed with the heroine obtaining help from Zack and Trudy¿s ghost who want the truth known by identifying their killer.--------- Harriet Klausner

I like Sadie's attude. She has a no nonsense way about her except when it comes to her love life. I hope Marva comes back. I can't wait to find out more, much more about Sadie's partner.

The main character is a woman who runs "Scene-2-Clean", a company that cleans up after violent or "unattended" (long-unnoticed) deaths. In addition, the spirits of the departed talk to her. The source of the mystery, then, is very clear. A very light read, the whodunnit is obvious with enough blatant clues peppered throughout the book for my ten year old to solve it without problems. There were several good multi-dimensional support characters, although the villain was rather flat. Still, the story is interesting in its details and it had a rather shocking emotional ending I honestly didn't foresee. It was an entertaining read.

Enjoyable light read of the supernatural mystery genre. Sadie see's dead people and she happens to be a crime scene cleaner. I thought this book was an interesting twist on the supernatural/detective genre with liberal dosing of humorous moments. If you like this kind of genre you will probably like this book.

I randomly picked this book to read. Wanted to read something with a ghost in it and came across this one. I really liked it! It's not gory gory but does have a little bit of graphic description. For me it was only bad enough to scrunch my nose at parts. The ending was a surprise for me. Will read the others in series.

I bought this book when it first came out in Paperback and I just bought it for my Nook. I love this series! The idea behind this book is a little gruesome, but Wendy Roberts does not make it disgusting. The Crime Scene clean up is pretty fascinating. I really hope she will continue to write these books.
