Remember Me: The Legendary King Sessions 1946

After an unsatisfying run at Columbia Records -- partially stifled due to ramifications of World War II -- the Bailes Brothers signed with King in 1946 and set about recording a series of seminal bluegrass sessions. Bear Family reissued these in two separate sets: Remember Me, which covers 1946, and Standing Somewhere in the Shadows, which covers 1953 and beyond (they had previously chronicled the Columbia recordings). On Remember Me, the fruits of their weekend-long session in late summer/early fall of 1946 are presented in their entirety. That weekend, they recorded 24 sides in Nashville, mostly religious material, all excellent. The Bailes Brothers were on fire that weekend, their harmonies pure and rich, their band ragged and soulful. This is some of the greatest harmony music in country and bluegrass, presented with its best possible sound and annotation.
