Remembering Whitney: My Story of Love, Loss, and the Night the Music Stopped by Cissy Houston

The definitive account of Whitney Houston’s astonishing life, ground-breaking career, and tragic death — complete with never-before-seen photographs — from the only one who truly knows the story behind the headlines: her mother, Cissy Houston.

Cissy has said little publicly about Whitney’s heart-breaking death. Now, for the first time, she opens up and shares the unbelievable story of her daughter’s life, as well as her own, and addresses Whitney’s brightest and darkest moments.

A legendary Grammy Award–winning gospel singer in her own right, Cissy Houston shows how the lessons from her own musical journey helped to shape Whitney’s career — from teaching Whitney to use her voice, to keeping her level-headed throughout her meteoric rise to fame.

With candor and respect, she sets the record straight about Whitney, exploring both her turbulent marriage and her misunderstood struggles with drug abuse. Cissy goes behind the tabloid headlines to show fans around the world the true, human side of a strong, successful — yet flawed — musical icon who died much too young.

I've always loved and respected Whitney, even when it seemed like most of the world forgot how wonderful she was! After reading this I feel like I knew her personally and love her even more than ever! Knowing that she is with our heavenly father should bring your heart such peace. Praying for your family daily! Thank you for sharing your baby girl with the world.

Loved this book. Cissy told her story from the Heart of a mother. She keep it real telling the good times and the hard times. At the end of the day whatever the world thinks about Whitney after reading this book we sure know one thing that Whitney loved the Lord. God Bless the Houston family.

Candid, poignant and an excellent read! Before 'understanding Nippy' I saw Whitney as the world viewed her. Reading her mothers book has made me feel better about WHs life. Not personally knowing her, I often felt very grieved in my spirit over her death and I felt such turmoil. I now feel better about how she live, that a lot of her life was happy and that she is surely resting in peace.

I am a huge Witney Huston fan and was looking forward to reading a story about her. Too bad it was all about her mom. The first 50+pages was about Cissy. The name of the book is deceiving. I wanted to read about Witney not her Mom's career.

The book is well written and is a great story from the Mothers point of view. We look into the lives of the Houstons and can understand more about Nippy and perhaps why she did some of the things she did. We learned about some of her insecurities...because lets fact it; we all have them. Very Good Read. Will probably read it again.

Hats off to Ms. Houston for giving us some insight as to who NIPPPY was. I very much enjoyed reading and I will admit that I even shed a tear...or two...or three. A must read for all Whitney fans. Much respect to Ms. Cissy Houston.

Thank you for clearing up a few things about Whitney's tragic ending. I was a big fan of Whitney through the good and the bad. She was human and got caught up like some do. I understand her love for singing and music and how the pressures got to her. At one point, the world did not understand seemed she dealt with it in her own way. Thanks for sharing your side of the story! I know she wasn't a bad person. In fact, she changed the whole game so be very proud and tx for sharing her with us.

I bought this book because I wanted to read about how her mother viewed her life. I loved this book. It gave us the history of Mrs. Houston and it explained a lot of things that others have only speculated. I have shared this book with several members of my own family. My take away from this wonderful read is that we can love someone with all of our heart but their future and destiny is for them to decide. Thank you Mrs. Houston for sharing your story with the world.
