Rendeth, Southeastern Traimont. The Year 1427 After the Founding Kings. The Sokath War has ended, but fear and violence remain in the ancient land of Traimont. Ten years after his people were banished from their homes, the Sokathan trader Zel Jorath returns to Rendeth to pick up the pieces of his broken life. The Lonmian noblewoman Elenia del Collinium is another reluctant returnee to Rendeth, though she finds the sudden return of the Sokathans as a painful reminder of the husband she lost in the last year of the war. Meanwhile, a city guardsman named Serakhai tries to maintain order in the city as old prejudices flare up and outbreaks of trouble threaten to boil over into anarchy. As tensions mount in Rendeth, Zel, Elenia and Serakhai find themselves caught up in events beyond their control, as the streets of Rendeth are filled with fire and blood, and the fragile peace earned through great sacrifice threatens to unravel completely.
