Renege
Nia is a spoiled manipulative shell of a woman who finds herself pregnant and in prison when she and the father of her children (Tasheik) rob a local check cashing place to help maintain her “ghetto chic” lifestyle. Tasheik, who also sits in prison lets his anger dictate his heart and begins to express to Nia how he truly feels about her and her mother through a series of letters.
As Tasheik and Nia’s relationship begins to deteriorate, Nia’s mother Cassandra (a sharp, cunning woman who is no stranger to criminal activity) provides legal support to help her daughter regain her freedom. It is during this meeting the two women make plans to frame Tasheik to take the fall for the entire crime. However, Nia’s freedom comes at a cost. Cassandra has a cold and calculated plan to gain permanent custody of her grandchildren by having Nia relinquish her maternal rights in exchange for her freedom.
As for Tasheik, Cassandra uses other tactics to get him out of the picture. She first tries to have him murdered in prison. When that plan fails, she pays her sister to forge his name on the adoption papers, because according to Cassandra, “No one would ever look into it. He would be just another deadbeat shirking his responsibilities,” however Cassandra’s plan slowly begins to unravel and lives are turned upside down when shady deals and dubious affairs come to a head.
